Fol-low all local electrical codes during installation. All wiringmust conform to local and national electrical codes. Improperwiring or installation may damage thermostat.Recognize safety information. This is the safety alert sym-bol . When the safety alert symbol is present on equipmentor in the instruction manual, be alert to the potential for person-al injury.Understand the signal words DANGER, WARNING, andCAUTION. These words are used with the safety alert symbol.DANGER identifies the most serious hazards which will resultin severe personal injury or death. WARNING signifies a haz-ard which could result in personal injury or death. CAUTIONis used to identify unsafe practices which would result in minorpersonal injury or property damage.GENERALThe fan coil programmable thermostats are wall-mounted orunit-mounted, low-voltage thermostats which maintain roomtemperature by controlling the operation of a fan coil unit.Separate heating and cooling set points, auto-changeovercapability, 2-pipe or 4-pipe configurability, and single or dualset point options allow for greater flexibility. The thermostats are normally wall-mounted for 42C and42D fan coil units. For 42S and 42V fan coil units, the thermo-stat is mounted on the fan coil unit or inside the fan coil unit ona junction box. For 42S and 42V fan coil units, the thermostatmay also be remote wall-mounted, if desired. All thermostats allow up to 4 time/temperature settings tobe programmed per 24-hour period. Each thermostat storesprograms for 7 independent days. Batteries are not required.During power interruption, the internal NEVERLOST™ mem-ory stores configuration settings for an unlimited amount oftime while the clock continues to run for at least 48 hours. The thermostat can be configured to accept several differentequipment configurations, including 2-pipe or 4-pipe operation. The temperature display range of the thermostat is 35 to99 F (2 to 36 C).NOTE: The thermostat is factory-configured for use in 4-pipeapplications. The advanced setup must be performed to config-ure the thermostat for use with 2-pipe applications.INSTALLATIONSelect Thermostat Location — The thermostat shouldbe mounted:• approximately 5 ft from the floor• close to or in a frequently used room, preferably on aninside partitioning wall• on a section of wall without pipes or ductwork• where temperature operating limits are within 32 to 122 F(0° to 50 C)• where humidity operating range is within 0 to 95% relativehumidity, non-condensingThe thermostat should NOT be mounted:• close to a window, on an outside wall, or next to a doorleading to the outside• where exposed to direct light and heat from a lamp, the sun,a fireplace, or any other temperature-radiating object whichmay cause a false reading• close to or in direct airflow from supply registers or return-air grilles• in areas with poor air circulation (such as behind a door orin an alcove)Install Thermostat1. Turn off all power to fan coil unit.2. If an existing thermostat is being replaced:a. Remove existing thermostat from the wall or unit.IMPORTANT: Read entire instructions before startingthe installation. Before installing thermostat, turn off all power to the unit. There may be more than one power disconnect. Electricalshock can cause injury or death.33CSFan CoilProgrammable Thermostat
