GENERAL CLEANINGMaintaining proper performance of 52S systems(Figure 21) requires conscientious cleaning and care ofcomponents. Specific components require periodic clean-ing and/or replacement, including the following:COMPONENT CLEANING SCHEDULEIndoor Air Filter MonthlyVent Air Filter MonthlyIndoor Coil SeasonallyIndoor Fan SeasonallyOutdoor Coil SeasonallyCLEANING AND SAFETYBefore starting to clean a unit, read the instructionsthoroughly and gather the necessary tools for the job.Review all safety information on unit and in literature.Before cleaning, servicing, performing maintenance,or removing the chassis from the wall sleeve, discon-nect all power to the unit to avoid the possibility ofelectrical shock and personal injury. Only trainedand qualified service personnel should performinstallation and service procedures on these units.Untrained personnel may perform basic maintenancetasks such as cleaning and replacing filters. Refer toGeneral Disassembly section of this manual forproper procedures to disconnect power to 52S units.Consider the following safety issues beforebeginning:• New and unfamiliar tasks should be performedunder the supervision of an experienced servicetechnician.• Personal protective equipment, such as safety glassesand work gloves, should be used.• The floor around the work area should be clean andfree of debris.• The 52S unit weighs up to 150 pounds.
