Builder’s Non-Programmable ThermostatInstallation, Start-Up, and Operating InstructionsNOTE: Read the entire instruction manual before starting theinstallation.SAFETY CONSIDERATIONSRead and follow manufacturer instructions carefully. Follow alllocal electrical codes during installation. All wiring must conformto local and national electrical codes. Improper wiring or installa-tion may damage thermostat.Recognize safety information. This is the safety-alert symbol .When you see this symbol on the equipment and in the instructionmanual, be alert to the potential for personal injury.Understand the signal words DANGER, WARNING, and CAU-TION. These words are used with the safety-alert symbol. DAN-GER identifies the most serious hazards which will result in severepersonal injury or death. WARNING signifies a hazard whichcould result in personal injury or death. CAUTION is used toidentify unsafe practices which would result in minor personalinjury or product and property damage.INTRODUCTIONThe Builder’s Model thermostat is an electronic 24-vac, non-programmable, manual changeover wall mount thermostat. Thisthermostat uses a single set point to maintain and control roomtemperature in both the heating and air conditioning modes. Thethermostat is designed to maintain +/- 2°F accuracy. No batteriesare required; temperature, fan, mode, and installer configurationsettings are preserved with power off.INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONSAIR CONDITIONER MODELTSTATCCBAC01-B, the Builder’s Model air conditioner thermo-stat, may be wired with or without connecting a common wirebetween the indoor equipment and the thermostat. However, it isrecommended to use a common wire whenever possible. Withouta common wire this thermostat becomes "power stealing." Thismeans it will need to steal a small amount of power from theequipment to which it is connected. When "power stealing"method is used, the supplied 270 ohm load resistor must beconnected at the indoor unit. (See Fig. 2, 3, 5, and notes.)NOTE: Not all HVAC equipment is compatible with powerstealing type thermostats. For all non-Carrier equipment, consultthe system equipment Installation Instructions before applying thisthermostat in a power stealing manner.HEAT PUMP MODELTSTATCCBHP01-B, the Builder’s Model heat pump thermostat,is compatible with all Carrier heat pump systems. It is NOT powerstealing and MUST have both the R and C terminals connected tooperate properly. This thermostat uses a green LED to indicateauxiliary heat and emergency heat operation. The following Carrier equipment is not compatible with theAC version (TSTATCCBAC01-B) of this thermostat.58MVP 90% Variable Speed Furnace58DFA, 58GFA 78% Standing Pilot Furnace58PAP, 58RAP58CLA, 58CMA Oil Furnaces58EFB Gas FurnaceTSTATXXCNV10 Thermostat Conversion KitINSTALLATIONStep 1—Thermostat LocationThermostat should be mounted:• Approximately 5 ft (1.5m) from floor.• Close to or in a frequently used room, preferably on an insidepartitioning wall.• On a section of wall without pipes or duct work.Thermostat should NOT be mounted:• Close to a window, on an outside wall, or next to a door leadingto the outside.• Exposed to direct light and heat from a lamp, sun, fireplace, orother heat-radiating object which may cause a false reading.• Close to or in direct airflow from supply registers and return-airgrilles.• In areas with poor air circulation, such as behind a door or inan alcove.Fig. 1—Builder’s Non-Programmable ThermostatA98192Visit www.carrier.comManufacturer reserves the right to discontinue, or change at any time, specifications or designs without notice and without incurring obligations.Book 1 4Tab misc. misc.
