Elimination of contamination andremoval of harmful residues will greatly increase the life of thecoil and extend the life of the unit. The following steps shouldbe taken to clean MCHX condenser coils:1. Remove any foreign objects or debris attached to thecoreface or trapped within the mounting frame andbrackets.2. Put on personal protective equipment including safety-glasses and/or face shield, waterproof clothing andgloves. It is recommended to use full coverage clothing.3. Start high pressure water sprayer and purge any soap orindustrial cleaners from sprayer before cleaning condens-er coils. Only clean, potable water is authorized for clean-ing condenser coils.4. Clean condenser face by spraying the core steady anduniformly from top to bottom while directing the spraystraight toward the core. Do not exceed 900 psig or30 degree angle. The nozzle must be at least 12 in. fromthe core face. Reduce pressure and use caution to preventdamage to air centers.Check Refrigerant Feed Components(Fig. 34-36)FILTER DRIER — The function of the filter drier is to main-tain a clean, dry system. The moisture indicator (describedbelow) indicates any need to change the filter drier. The filterdrier is a sealed-type drier. When the drier needs to bechanged, the entire filter drier must be replaced.NOTE: Dual circuit (035-150 sizes) units have 1 filter drier percircuit.MOISTURE-LIQUID INDICATOR — The indicator is locatedimmediately ahead of the TXV to provide an indication of therefrigerant moisture content. It also provides a sight glass forrefrigerant liquid. Clear flow of liquid refrigerant (at full unitloading) indicates sufficient charge in the system. Bubbles in thesight glass (at full unit loading) indicate an undercharged systemor the presence of noncondensables. Moisture in the system, measured in parts per million (ppm), changes the color of theindicator as follows:Green (safe) —Moisture is below 75 ppmYellow-Green (caution) — 75 to 150 ppmYellow (wet) — above 150 ppmThe unit must be in operation at least 12 hours before themoisture indicator gives an accurate reading, and must be incontact with liquid refrigerant. At the first sign of moisture inthe system, change the corresponding filter drier.NOTE: Dual circuit (035-150 sizes) units have one indicatorper circuit.CAUTIONDo not apply any chemical cleaners to MCHX condensercoils. These cleaners can accelerate corrosion and damagethe coil.CAUTIONExcessive water pressure will fracture the braze betweenair centers and refrigerant tubes.SUCTIONACCESSVALVEFLOWSWITCHLWT DTTEWTRGTSPTHPSDPTCOMPRESSOR A1COMPRESSOR A2Fig. 34 — Component Location — 30RAP010-030a30-4973LEGENDDPT — Discharge Pressure ThermostatDTT — Discharge Temperature ThermistorEWT — Entering Water ThermistorHPS — High Pressure SwitchLWT — Leaving Water ThermistorRGT — Return Gas ThermistorSPT — Suction Pressure Transducer
