6OUTDOOR COIL—SEA COASTIf your unit is located near the ocean, special maintenance isrequired. Ocean mist/breeze carries salt, which is corrosive tomost metals. Although your new unit is made out of galvanizedmetal and is protected by top-grade paint, you should take theprecaution of additional maintenance which consists of peri-odically washing the unit. By washing all exposed surfaces andcoil, you will be adding additional life to your unit. Please con-sult your installing contractor for proper intervals/proceduresfor your geographic area or service contact.UNIT SUPPORTYour split-system outdoor unit should be maintained at a levelposition. If its support should shift or settle so that the unit isno longer level, you should correct the condition. Relevel itpromptly to assure water drains out of the unit. If you noticethat water or ice collects beneath the unit, arrange for it to bedrained away from the unit.Heat pumps installed in snowbelt areas should be elevated withsupport feet or a snow stand.BEFORE YOU REQUEST A“SERVICE CALL”CHECK FOR THESE EASILY SOLVEDPROBLEMS:• Check the indoor and outdoor disconnect switches. Verifythat circuit breakers are ON or that fuses have not blown.• Check for sufficient airflow. Check the air filter(s) for anyaccumulations of dirt. Check for blocked return-air or supply-air registers. Be sure registers are open and unobstructed.• Check the settings on your indoor thermostat. If you desirecooling, make sure that the temperature control selector is setbelow room temperature and the SYSTEM or MODE controlis set to COOL or AUTO. If you require warmth, make surethat the temperature control selector is set above room temper-ature and the SYSTEM or MODE control is set to HEAT orAUTO. The FAN control should be set to ON for continuousblower operation or AUTO if you wish blower to function onlywhile your heat pump is operating.If your comfort system still fails to operate, turn your systemoff and contact your servicing dealer for troubleshooting andrepairs. Specify your apparent problem, and state the modeland serial numbers of your equipment. (You should have themrecorded on the last page of this booklet.) With this informa-tion, your dealer may be able to offer helpful suggestions overthe phone or save valuable time through knowledgeable prep-aration for the service call.REGULAR DEALERMAINTENANCEIn addition to the routine mainte-nance that you perform, your homecomfort system should be inspect-ed regularly by a properly trainedservice technician. The inspection(preferably twice each year, but atleast once every year) shouldinclude the following:• Routine inspection of air filter(s). Replacement or cleaningas required.• Inspection and cleaning of the blower wheel, housing, andmotor as required.• Inspection and, if required, cleaning of indoor and outdoorcoils.• Inspection of the indoor coil drain pan, plus the primary andsecondary drain lines. If supplied, the auxiliary drain pan andline should be inspected at this time. Service should includecleaning if required.• A check of all electrical wiring and connections.• A check for secure physical connections of individual com-ponents within units.• Operational check of the heat pump system to determineactual working condition. Necessary repair and/or adjustmentshould be performed at this time.• Your servicing dealer may offer an economical servicecontract that covers seasonal inspections. Ask for furtherdetails.FOR THE RECORDRecord the model, product, and serial numbers of your newequipment in the spaces provided. This information, alongwith the other ready-reference facts requested will benecessary should you ever require information or service. |
