Carrier PH5G-B Installation Instruction
PH5G-B: Installation InstructionManufacturer reserves the right to change, at any time, specifications and designs without notice and without obligations.31A08505Fig. 27 – Fan Blade PositionStep 12 – Refrigerant SystemThis step covers the refrigerant system including the compressor oilneeded, servicing systems on roofs containing synthetic materials, thefilter drier and refrigerant charging.RefrigerantCompressor OilThe Copeland scroll compressor uses 3MAF POE oil. If additional oil isneeded, use Uniqema RL32-3MAF. If this oil is not available, useCopeland Ultra 32 CC or Mobil Arctic EAL22 CC. This oil is extremelyhygroscopic, meaning it absorbs water readily. POE oils can absorb 15times as much water as other oils designed to HCFC and CFCrefrigerants. Take all necessary precautions to avoid exposure of the oilto the atmosphere.Servicing Systems on Roofs with Synthetic MaterialsPOE (polyolester) compressor lubricants are known to cause long termdamage to some synthetic roofing materials. Exposure, even ifimmediately cleaned up, may cause embrittlement (leading to cracking)to occur in one year or more. When performing any service that may riskexposure of compressor oil to the roof, take appropriate precautions toprotect roofing. Procedures which risk oil leakage include, but are notlimited to, compressor replacement, repairing refrigerant leaks, replacingrefrigerant components such as filter drier, pressure switch, meteringdevice, coil, accumulator, or reversing valve.Synthetic Roof Precautionary Procedure1. Cover extended roof working area with an impermeablepolyethylene (plastic) drip cloth or tarp. Cover an approximate10x10 ft (3x3 m) area.2. Cover area in front of the unit service panel with a terry cloth shoptowel to absorb lubricant spills and prevent run-offs, and protectdrop cloth from tears caused by tools or components.3. Place terry cloth shop towel inside unit immediately undercomponent(s) to be serviced and prevent lubricant run-offs throughthe louvered openings in the unit base.4. Perform required service.5. Remove and dispose of any oil contaminated material per localcodes.Liquid Line Filter DrierThe biflow filter drier is specifically designed to operate with R-454B.Use only factory-authorized components. Filter drier must be replacedwhenever the refrigerant system is opened. When removing a filter drier, use a tubing cutter to cut the drier from the system. Do not unsweat afilter drier from the system. Heat from unsweating will release moistureand contaminants from drier into system.R-454B Refrigerant ChargingRefer to unit information plate and charging chart. Some R-454Brefrigerant cylinders contain a dip tube to allow liquid refrigerant to flowfrom cylinder in upright position. For cylinders equipped with a dip tube, charge R-454B units with cylinder in upright position and a commercialmetering device in manifold hose. Charge refrigerant into suction-line.Step 13 – System InformationLoss of Charge SwitchThe loss of charge switch is a protective device wired into control circuit(low voltage). It shuts off the compressor if abnormally low pressuresare present in the refrigeration circuit.NOTE: Because these switches are attached to refrigeration systemunder pressure, it is not advisable to remove this device fortroubleshooting unless you are reasonably certain that a problem exists. If switch must be removed, remove and recover all system charge so thatpressure gauges read 0 psig. Never open system without breakingvacuum with dry nitrogen.MAX DISTANCE BETWEEN TOP OF FAN GRILLE AND BOTTOM OF FAN BLADESize “A”IN. mm24 7.1 18030 8.0 20336 7.6 19342 7.6 19348 7.6 19360 7.6 193MOTOR FAN GRILLEMOTOR SHAFTAWARNING!PROPERTY HAZARD, PERSONAL INJURY ORENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDFailure to follow this warning could result in property damage orpersonal injury or death. This system uses R-454B refrigerant which has higher operatingpressures than R-22 and other refrigerants. No other refrigerant may beused in this system. Gauge set, hoses, and recovery system must bedesigned to handle R-454BIf you are unsure consult the equipmentmanufacturer. |
