If you can fully closethe quick release without wrapping your fingersaround the fork blade for leverage. and the lleverdoes not leave a clear embossed mark in thesurface of your fork, the tension is insufficient.Open the lever; turn the tension-adjusting nutclockwise a quarter turn; then try againInstalling a Quick Release Rear Wheel• Move the quick-release lever so that itcurves away from the wheel. This is theOPEN position.• With the steering fork facing forward, insertthe wheel between the fork blades so that theaxle seats firmly at the top of the slots that areat the tips of the fork blades - the fork dropouts. The quick-release lever should be on the leftside of the bicycle.• Holding the quick-release lever in the OPENposition with your right hand, tighten the tension-adjusting nut with your left hand until it is tightagainst the fork dropout.• While pushing the wheel firmly to the top ofthe slots in the fork dropouts, and at the sametime centering the wheel rim in the fork, movethe quick-release lever upwards and swing itinto the CLOSED position.• The lever should now be parallel to the forkblade and curved toward the wheel. With theright amount of force, the lever should make aclear embossed mark on the sur face of the fork.• If the lever cannot be pushed all the way toa position parallel to the fork blade, return thelever to the OPEN position. Then turn thetension-adjusting nut counterclockwise one-quarter turn and try tightening the lever again.• Re-engage the brake quick-release mecha-nismto restore correct brake pad-to-rim clearance;spin the to make sure that it is centered in theframe and clears the brake pads; then squeezethe brake levers and make sure that they work.• Pull the derailleur body back with your right hand.• Make sure that the rear derailleur is still in itsoutermost, high-gear position.• Move the quick-release lever to the OPENiposition.
