10bURNER EffICIENCy AND flAME ChARACTERISTICSIt is necessary to keep the burner ports and the igniters cleanfor proper lighting and efficient performance of the cooktopburners (Fig. 05). The burner flame should burn completelyaround the burner with no excessive noise or lifting. The flameshould be blue in color and stable with no yellow tips. Animproper air-gas mixture may cause either a burner flutter or ayellow tipped flame. during initial use, foreign particles in thegas line, or dust in the air around the appliance may cause anorange flame. This will disappear with use.flAME hEIGhTThe correct height of the flame mainly depends on the size ofthe bottom of the cooking utensil, the material of the cookingutensil, the amount and type of food and the amount of liquidin the utensil. Following are some basic rules for selectingflame height.n For safety reasons the flame must never extend beyond thebottom of the cooking utensil. Never allow flames to curl up the sideof the pan (see Fig. 06). This will discolor or damage the utensil.n Utensils which conduct heat slowly (such as glass-ceramic) shouldbe used with medium to low flame. If you are cooking with a largeamount of liquid, a slightly larger flame can be used.n Broiler: The broiler flame should be approximately 1/8” thick and blue(Fig.07) . This is set at the factory for correct performance.COOkTOp bURNERSThe cooktop burners must be kept clean. Cleaning of the cooktopburners should include the igniter. The cooktop burners have aninfinite number of heat settings and there are no fixed positions onthe control knobs between HI and lo. To turn the cooktop burner on,push in on the control knob and turn it counterclockwise to the “lITE” position. An audible clicking sound willbe heard. When the gas has been ignited by the electronic spark igniter, turn the knob to the desired setting.(The clicking sound should stop as soon as the burner is lit).WARNING!When turning on any cooktop burner, be sure to stop at the “LiTE” position before turning the burner to a flamesetting for cooking. if the burner is not lit and it is turned beyond the “LiTE” position, to Hi, MEDiUM, or Lo, therecould be a burst of flame when the burner does light.COOkTOp USEPRoPER FlAME HEIGHTfig. 06ElECTRONIC IGNITERSIf a burner does not ignite, listen for the clicking sound. If the igniter is notclicking, TURN oFF THE BURNER. Check the circuit breaker for a blown fuse ora tripped circuit breaker. If the igniter still fails to operate, see page 30, “Be-fore Calling For service”. To light the burner manually, see page 26, “PowerFailure”.NOTE:If you are using propane gas, a slight pop or flash may occur at the burnerports a few seconds after the burner has been turned “off”. This “extinctionpop” is normal for propane gas. fig. 05IGNITER (kEEP ClEAN)Screen shouldbe glowing redFlame should beapproximately 1/8"thick and bluefig. 07sCREEN sHoUldBE GloWING REdFlAME sHoUld BEAPPRoxIMATElY 1/8”THICk ANd BlUE
