13Care and CleaningReplacing the Water FilterDo not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or ofunknown quality without adequate disinfection before or afterthe system. Systems certified for cyst reduction may be used ondisinfected waters that may contain filterable cysts.Locate the water filter cap in the front base grille. Rotate the1.cap counterclockwise to a vertical position and pull the capand filter cartridge out through the base grille.NOTE: There will be water in the filter. Some spilling mayoccur.Remove the cap by sliding it off the end of the used filter. The2.cap will slide to the left or right.IMPORTANT: Do not discard the cap. It is part of yourrefrigerator. Keep the cap to use with the replacement filter.Take the new water filter out of its packaging and remove the3.cover from the O-rings. Discard the cover.Slide the cap (removed in Step 2) onto the new filter. See4.illustration in Step 2.With cap in the vertical position, push the new water filter into5.the base grille until it stops. Rotate the cap clockwise to ahorizontal position. Flush the water system. See Flushing theWater System After Replacing Filter later in this section.Flushing the Water System After Replacing FilterTo turn on the ice maker, slide the ice maker On/Off control tothe ON (up) position.Allow 24 hours to produce the first batch of ice.Before using the ice, fill and discard two full containers of iceto prepare the filter for use.Using the Dispenser Without the Water FilterYou can run the dispenser without a water filter. Your water willnot be filtered.Remove the water filter.1.Slide the cap off the end of the filter.2.With the cap in the vertical position, insert the cap into the3.base grille until it stops.IMPORTANT: Do not discard the cap.
