If the cooktop shouldbreak, cleaning solutions and spill-overs may penetrate thebroken cooktop and create a risk of electric shock. Contacta qualified technician immediately to replace a damaged/pitted cooktop.• Make sure that the cooktop has been properly installedand grounded by a qualified installer according to theaccompanying installation instructions. Have the installershow you the location of the circuit breaker panel or fusebox so that you know where and how to turn off power tothe appliance.• Do not install, repair or replace any part of the cooktopunless specifically recommended in the literatureaccompanying it. A qualified service technician must performall other service.• Before performing any type of service, make sure thatpower to the cooktop is turned off at the circuit breakerpanel or fuse box.• Only use the cooktop for cooking tasks expected of a homeappliance as outlined in this manual. The glass surfaceheats because it is in contact with the hot cooking vessel.• Make sure individuals who use the cooktop are able tooperate it properly.• Never allow anyone, including children to sit, stand or climbon any part of the cooktop. Doing so may cause damage,serious injury or death. Do not leave children or pets aloneor unattended in the area around the cooktop. Do not allowchildren to play with the controls or touch other parts of thecooktop.• Do not store items of interest to children on top of or abovethe cooktop. Children could be burned or injured whileclimbing over the appliance.• Do not heat unopened canned food. Pressure build up maycause the container to burst and cause injury.• Use potholders to handle hot utensils.• Hold the handle of the utensil to prevent movement whenstirring or turning food.WARNING• Do not tamper with the controls.• Do not place or store items that could melt or catch fire onthe cooktop, even when it is not in use.• Do not cover the cooktop with anything except properlyselected utensils. Decorative covers may cause afire hazard or damage to the cooktop if an element isaccidentally turned on with the cover in place.• Do not use the cooktop as a counter to store utensils orother items.• Clean and maintain the cooktop regularly as instructedin this manual. Keep the cooktop, ventilation filters andrange hood free of grease that could catch fire. Clean onlythe parts specified in this manual. Clean them only in themanner instructed.• Do not allow plastic items to come in contact with a hotglass surface when it is hot. They can melt or burn anddamage the glass surface.• Do not wear loose or hanging apparel while using thecooktop. Do not allow clothing to come into contact withthe top of the cooktop or surrounding areas during andimmediately after use.• Do not hang flammable or heat sensitive objects over thecooktop.• If the cooktop is near a window, do not use long curtains aswindow treatment. The curtains could blow over the top andcreate a fire hazard.• To avoid the possibility of fire, do not leave the cooktopunattended when in use. Boil over causes smoking andgreasy spill-overs that may cause injury.• Keep flammable items, such as paper, cardboard, plasticand cloth away from hot surfaces. Do not use aluminum foildirectly on the glass, it can melt and damage the glass.• When deep fat frying:◊ Be certain that the pan is large enough to contain thedesired volume of food without overflow caused bythe bubbling of the fat. Never leave a deep fat fryerunattended.◊ Avoid frying moist or frost-covered foods. Foods withhigh water content may cause spattering or spilling ofthe hot fat.◊ Heat fat slowly, and stir together any combinationof oils and fats prior to applying heat. Utilize a deepfat frying thermometer to avoid heating the fat totemperatures above the flash point.◊ Turn on the range hood.• Use extreme caution if adding water to food in a hot utensil.The steam can cause serious burns or scalds.• Do leave food on the cooking zones. Boil-overs can causesmoking or greasy spill-overs that can ignite.
