64 IM 1167Electrical DataElectrical DataField WiringWiring must comply with all applicable codes and ordinances.Warranty does not cover damage to the equipment caused bywiring not complying with specifications. Pathfinder chillerscan be ordered with main power wiring for either multi-pointpower connection (standard) or single-point connection(optional). If the optional single-point power connection isordered, a single power connection is made to a power block(or optional disconnect switch) in the unit power panel. Aseparate disconnect is required if the optional factory-mounteddisconnect is not ordered. Factory-mounted isolation circuitbreakers for each circuit are included as standard on all single-point connection options. If the standard multiple-point power wiring is ordered, twopower connections are required on Pathfinder chiller modelsAWS###BDS or three power connections on AWS###BTS.They are made to factory-mounted disconnect switches in thepower panel. See the dimension drawings beginning onpage 67 for entry locations. An open indicates a short, ground, or overload. Beforereplacing a fuse or restarting a compressor or fan motor, thetrouble must be found and corrected.Copper wire is requiredfor all power lead terminations at the unit, and copper must beused for all other wiring to the unit.It can be desirable to have the unit evaporator heaters on aseparate disconnect switch from the main unit power supply sothat the unit power can be shut down without defeating thefreeze protection provided by the evaporator heaters. See thefield wiring diagram on page 65 for connection details. The120-volt control transformer is factory mounted and wired. .CAUTIONIf a separate disconnect is used for the 120V supply to the unit, it mustpower the entire control circuit. It must be clearly marked so that it isnot accidentally shut off during freezing temperatures, thereby de-energizing the evaporator heaters. Freeze damage to the evaporatorcould result. If the evaporator is drained for winter freeze protection, the heaters must be de-energized to prevent heater burnout.CAUTIONPathfinder unit compressors are single-direction rotation compressorsand can be damaged if rotated in the wrong direction. For this reason, proper phasing of electrical power is important. Electrical phasingmust be A, B, C for electrical phases 1, 2 and 3 (A=L1, B=L2, C=L3)for single or multiple point wiring arrangements. The solid-statestarters contain phase reversal protection.DO NOT ALTER THE WIRING TO THE STARTERS.Electrical Data Notes1 Explanation of field wiring designation:Designation Total Wires Total Conduits350 MCM 3 12-250 MCM 6 1(2) 250 MCM 6 2(2) 2-300 MCM 12 2Note: NOTE: Wire size shown is for illustrative purposes only.2 Allowable voltage limits:Unit nameplate 460V/60Hz/3Ph: 414V to 506VUnit nameplate 575V/60Hz/3Ph: 517V to 633V3 Unit wire size ampacity (MCA) is equal to 125% of thelargest compressor-motor RLA plus 100% of RLA of allother loads in the circuit including control transformer.Wire size ampacity for separate 115V control circuitpower is 15 amps.4 Units marked with (*) - These units require the use of a100% rated disconnect; therefore, wire will be sized per75ºC NEC ratings, however 90ºC wire must be used.5 Compressor RLA values are for wire sizing purposesonly, but do reflect normal operating current draw at unitrated capacity.6 Single-point power supply requires a single disconnect tosupply electrical power to the unit. Power must be fused.7 Multiple point power supply requires a independentpower supply for each circuit.8 All field wiring to unit power block or optional nonfuseddisconnect switch must be copper.9 Field wire size values given in tables apply to 75°C ratedwire per NEC.10 External disconnect switch(s) or HACR breakers must befield supplied. On single-point power units, a non-fuseddisconnect switch in the panel is an available option.11 All wiring must be done in accordance with applicablelocal and national codes.12 Recommended time delay fuse size is equal to 170% ofthe largest compressor motor RLA plus 100% ofremaining compressor RLAs and the sum of condenserfan FLAs.13 Maximum time delay fuse size or HACR breakers isequal to 225% of the largest compressor-motor RLA plus100% of remaining compressor RLAs and the sum ofcondenser fan FLAs.14 Power Limitations:Voltage within 10 percent of nameplate rating.Voltage unbalance not to exceed 2% with a resultant cur-rent unbalance of 6 to 10 times the voltage unbalance perNEMA MG-1, 1998 Standard.15 Circuit Breakers (Non-Compressor VFD Units)The circuit breaker used in the High Short Circuit paneloption may have a higher trip rating than the unit Maxi-mum Overload Protection (MOP) value shown on the unitnameplate. The circuit breaker is installed as a service dis-connect switch and does not function as branch circuit pro-tection, mainly that the protection device must be installedat the point of origin of the power wiring. The breaker (dis-connect switch) is oversized to avoid nuisance trips at highambient temperature conditions.16 BAS InterfaceThe following installation manuals for optional BAS inter-face modules are shipped with the chiller.
