Genesis MPAppendix AExternal ConnectionsThis chapter describes the I/O features of the Genesis MP and theinterfaces for external I/O devices. The interfaces and their pinoutsare listed below.Note:The A/V features and specification that are specific to the 3 slotGenesis MP are described in Apple’s Technical Information manu-al. This manual was included with the Power Macintosh that wasused in the Genesis MP conversion process.Interface BasicsFollow these guidelines when handling, disconnecting, or connect-ing the system:• When connecting or disconnecting a cable, always hold thecable by its connector (the plug, not the cord).• Always turn off the system and all of its components prior toconnecting or disconnecting any cables or when adding orremoving any component. Failure to do so could seriously dam-age these assemblies and/or the system. Additionally, electriccurrents can cause damage to oneself or even loss of life.• Never force a connector into a port. If the connector and portdo not join with ease, they may not match, or may be inneed of repair. Ensure the connector matches the port andthat the connector is correctly aligned to its pin assignments. Also check to ensure that none of the pins are bent.Refer to the Genesis MP User Guide for more information aboutconnecting External SCSI devices. For information aboutInstallation, SCSI Cables and Chains, and Termination, refer toChapter 3 of the Genesis MP User Guide.I/O PortsThe Genesis MP system has the standard I/O ports found on allMac OS systems:• Two Geoport-compatible serial ports• ADB port• Ethernet ports (AAUI and 10BaseT)• SCSI port• Stereo sound input and output jacksAppendix Au 67
