ECO energy saving mode button with lightPRELIMINARY CHECKSChecking the applianceAfter removing the packaging, make sure theproduct is complete and undamaged and that allaccessories are present.Do not use the appliance if it is visibly damaged.Contact Customer Service (see enclosed guaran-tee leaflet).Installing the applianceImportant!When you install the appliance, you should fol-low the following safety warnings:• The appliance gives off heat.After positioning the appliance on theworktop, leave a space of at least 3 cmbetween the surfaces of the appliance andthe side and rear walls and at least 15 cmabove the coffee maker.• Water penetrating the appliance could causedamage.Do not place the appliance near taps or sin-ks.• The appliance could be damaged if the waterit contains freezes.Do not install the appliance in a room wherethe temperature could drop below freezingpoint.• Arrange the power cable in such a way that itcannot be damaged by sharp edges or con-tact with hot surfaces (e.g. electric hot pla-tes).Connecting the applianceImportant!Check that the mains power supply voltage cor-responds to the value indicated on the rating pla-te on the bottom of the appliance.Connect the appliance to an efficiently earthedand correctly installed socket with a minimumcurrent rating of 10A only.If the power socket does not match the plug onthe appliance, have the socket replaced with asuitable type by a qualified professional.Using the coffee maker for the first timePlease note:• Coffee has been used to factory test the ap-pliance and it is therefore completely normalfor there to be traces of coffee in the mill. Themachine is, however, guaranteed to be new.• You should customise water hardness assoon as possible following the instructionsin the section “Setting water hardness” onpage 15.1. Remove the water tank, fill to the MAX linewith fresh water then replace in the appliance(fig. 1).2. Turn the cappuccino maker outwards andplace a container with a minimum capacityof 100 ml underneath (fig. 2).3. Plug the appliance into the mains socket andplace the main switch on the back of the ap-pliance in the I position (fig. 3).4. Press the button (fig. 4); IMMEDIATELYAFTERWARDS (WITHIN A MAXIMUM OF 30SECONDS), turn the steam knob anticlockwi-se as far as it will go (fig. 5). This is primingthe water system. (It is normal for the ma-chine to make some noise).5. Wait for delivery of hot water to stop auto-matically. The lights flash to indicate that youmust close the steam tap by turning the ste-am knob to the 0 position.6. Turn the steam knob to the 0 position. Theappliance goes off automatically.To use the appliance, turn it on.Please note:• When using the appliance for the first time,you need to make 4-5 cups of coffee or 4-5cappuccinos before the appliance starts togive satisfactory results.TURNING THE APPLIANCE ONPlease note:Before turning the appliance on, make sure themain switch on the back of the appliance is in theI position (fig. 3).Each time the appliance is turned on, it performsan automatic preheat and rinse cycle which can-not be interrupted.The appliance is ready for use only after comple-
