This control is used for lighting the fire orboosting the fire. This is also the main control when burning solid fuelThe secondary air wash control lever situated under the ash catch lip controls the preheated airwash and once the fire in the stove is established this is the control that should be used tocontrol the fire when burning wood.This secondary air control knob works as follows:Push fully in for maximum air flow into the stove and fully pull out for airflow to be shutdown.The stove is at its maximum efficiency when the lever is approximately half way.
