5With analogue recording, the image quality is dependent on the type of VCRbeing used; VHS or S-VHS. D4 allows the image quality to be altered byadjusting the image size, for example, LOW quality is 14KB, MEDium is 18KB,and greater than HIGH is 25KB*.Using a larger image size will fill the hard disk faster than a smaller image size,as more space is required to store it. To achieve the same amount of recordingtime when a larger image size is used requires the record rate (PPS) to bereduced.* Note that as for all digital recording, image quality can vary for different scene types, MEDiumquality may be 18KB in one scene, but it may be 30KB or more to get the same quality in a scenewith more detail.Record RateThe record rate is the amount of pictures recorded to disk in a second, orpictures per second (PPS). This is a system wide figure, so whether 1 or 4cameras are recorded, the record rate remains the same. The update rate percamera can be worked out using the record rate:Update rate = No. of camerasRecord rateA table of common record rates can be found in Appendix 1.Calculating Recording TimeD4 calculates the recording time automatically when the record rate and imagequality are entered. Alternatively, an interactive record calculator is available fordownload from our web site:www.dedicatedmicros.comD4 can be installed in as little as 4 steps, and being plug-and-play, cameraswill be detected and recorded automatically.Note: The D4 CD version has exactly the same connections as shown but hasincreased in height to accomodate the internal CD writer.Connections at Rear of the D4VideoVID1 to VID4 – 75 Ohm BNC composite camera connections (1V pk-pk).MON A – Main monitor, 75 Ohm BNC composite monitor connection(1V pk-pk).MON B – Spot monitor, 75 Ohm BNC composite monitor connection(1V pk-pk).AudioMIC – 3.5mm mono jack connection, -50dBV sensitivity or better.LINE IN – RCA (phono) socket, 47 KOhms 1V pk-pk.LINE OUT – RCA (phono) socket, 1V pk-pk.DataSCSI – 50-pin HD SCSI-2 connection.NET – RJ-45 10-baseT Ethernet connection.485 BUS – 2x MMJ ports for DM 485-BUS accessories.SERIAL 1 – 9-way (Male) D-type RS-232 serial port (PPP modem).SERIAL 2 – 9-way (Male) D-type RS-232/RS485 serial port (Telemetry).Alarms and RelaysALARM/RELAY – 15-Way (Female) D-Type, programmable direct alarms;NO/NC.Quick InstallPOWER 485 BUS NET SCSISERIAL 1SCSI MIC ALARM/RELAY MON VID 1 VID 2 VID 3 VID 4BASERIAL 2INOUTENGLISH
