One Disk Group (RAID 5), One Hot SpareCAUTION: Due to the large capacity and number of physical disks, the limitation to this option is the rebuild time. Iftwo disks fail simultaneously, data loss may occur.Space This option consists of one RAID 5 disk group with two virtual disks and a single hot spare. Thedisk group is made up of eleven, 2 TB physical disks with a total size of 20 TB. The NAS clusterrequires pairs of equal sized virtual disks. Therefore, the disk group is divided into two 10 TBvirtual disks to evenly utilize all available space in the disk group. You have 20 TB space to beallocated for the NAS cluster.High Availability A RAID 5 disk group can continue to execute read and write requests to all its virtual disksafter a single disk failure. As long as there is enough time to rebuild between failures, with thehot spare, there can be two disk failures before read and write requests cannot be executed.Creating Disk GroupsYou can create disk groups either automatically or manually using the PowerVault MDSM.Creating Disk Groups AutomaticallyNOTE: The following steps apply to PowerVault MDSM versions 10.84.x6.25 and later. To create disk groups automatically:1.
