Some cables have connectors with locking tabs; if you aredisconnecting this type of cable, press in on the locking tabs before you disconnectthe cable. As you pull connectors apart, keep them evenly aligned to avoid bendingany connector pins. Also, before you connect a cable, ensure that both connectorsare correctly oriented and aligned.NOTICE: To avoid damaging the computer, perform the following steps before youbegin working inside the computer.1 Turn off your computer (see "Turning Off Your Computer" on page 12).CAUTION: Never apply power to the computer when the cover has been removed.NOTICE: To disconnect a network cable, first unplug the cable from your computerand then unplug the cable from the network device.2 Disconnect all telephone or network cables from the computer.3 Disconnect your computer and all attached devices from their electricaloutlets.4 Press the power button to ground the system board.NOTICE: Before touching anything inside your computer, ground yourself bytouching an unpainted metal surface, such as the metal at the back of the computer.While you work, periodically touch an unpainted metal surface to dissipate staticelectricity, which could harm internal components.Adding and Replacing PartsThis section provides procedures for removing and installing the componentsin your computer. Unless otherwise noted, each procedure assumes that thefollowing conditions exist:• You have performed the steps in "Turning Off Your Computer" on page 12and "Before Working Inside Your Computer" on page 10.• You have read the safety information in the Dell™ Product InformationGuide.• A component can be replaced or—if purchased separately—installed byperforming the removal procedure in reverse order.
