To ensure that all of these features are maintained on your system, youmust use the version of Windows 95 that Dell installed on your hard-disk drive.Should you need to reinstall Windows 95 on an OptiPlex GX1 or GX1p system for anyreason, you must be sure to reinstall the correct version. Dell recommends perform-ing a periodic tape backup of the system’s entire hard-disk drive so that, if necessary,the operating system, drivers, and other software can be reinstalled as originally con-figured with a minimum of downtime.If you are unable to reinstall your software from a tape backup of the hard-disk drive,you can reinstall Windows 95 from the system’s Windows 95 CD that you receivedfrom Dell.However, if you reinstall Windows 95 in this manner, the bus-masteringfunctionality of the Windows 95 EIDE driver, which was operative in your original con-figuration, will be disabled. (Your system will operate without the bus-masteringfunctionality with only a small degradation in performance. Doing so enables Windows 95 to detect and configure PCI devicescontrolled by the integrated 82371EB component.Before you can perform the update, you must make a diskette copy of the updatesoftware from the disk image on the hard-disk drive.
