System Setup Program A-1Appendix ASystem Setup ProgramThis appendix describes the System Setup program, which is used to changethe system configuration information stored in NVRAM on the system board.To enter the System Setup program, follow these steps:1. Turn on (or reboot) the system.2. Press immediately after the computer’s speakeremits a beep.If you wait too long and the operating system begins to load into memory, letthe system complete the load operation; then shut down the system and tryagain.NOTES: To ensure an orderly system shutdown, consult the documentation thataccompanied the operating system.If the system is running Microsoft® Windows® 3.1x or later, MicrosoftWindows 95, or any other protected-mode operating system, do not enter theSystem Setup program from an MS-DOS window. Enter the System Setupprogram as described in the previous procedure. Alternatively, from theWindows 95 operating system you can press when the StartingWindows 95 message appears to get an MS-DOS prompt; then press.Another way of entering the System Setup program is to shut down the system,boot from an MS-DOS diskette, and then press . If the sys-tem is running MS-DOS, enter the System Setup program from the operatingsystem prompt by pressing .You can also enter the System Setup program by responding to certain errormessages.
