Introduction 25ManagementThe following sections describe methods you can use to manage the switch.Web-Based InterfaceAfter you have successfully installed the switch, you can configure theswitch, monitor the LED panel, and display statistics graphically using aWeb browser like Netscape Navigator version 4.0 and higher or Microsoft ®IE version 4.01 and higher.NOTE: To access to theswitch via a Web browser,the PC running the Webbrowser must have IP-based network access tothe switch.Menu-Driven Console Interface via Serial Port or TelnetYou can also connect a computer or terminal to the serial console port or useTelnet to access the switch. The interface is menu driven so you do not needto use a complex command syntax. The menus are similar to those in theWeb interface. For more information, see “Console Interface.”SNMP Network Management PlatformsYou can manage the switch with an SNMP-compatible management stationrunning platforms such as HP OpenView. The switch is compatible withSNMP version 1.0.The SNMP agent decodes the incoming SNMP messages and responds tothese requests with MIB objects stored in the database. For statistics andcounters, the SNMP agent updates the MIB objects every 5 seconds.The switch supports the following comprehensive set of MIB extensions:• MIB II• Ethernet Interface MIB• Bridge MIB• 4 RMON groups– Ethernet statistics group– Ethernet history group– Alarm group– Event group• Enterprise MIB
