Servers: Database consolidation on Dell PowerEdge R810 servers13As Figure 4 shows, the combined OPM of 24 SQL Server databaseworkloads on the Dell PowerEdge R810 solution were over 27 timesgreater than the single HP ProLiant DL385 solution databaseworkload.050,000100,000150,000200,000HP ProLiantDL385solutionDell PowerEdgeR810solutionOrders per minuteTotal orders per minute: 1 HP ProLiant DL385solution vs. 24 workloads on 1 Dell PowerEdge R810solutionFigure 4. Combined orders per minute of 24 database workloads on the DellPowerEdge R810 solution versus a single HP ProLiant DL385 solution databaseworkload. Greater OPM is better.Power savingsAs Figure 5 shows, assuming we were running 24 HP ProliantDL385 servers, each using one-half of the HP StorageWorks MSA30external enclosure, and therefore a total of 12 enclosures, wewould significantly reduce our power consumption. Powerconsumption at idle and under load both decreased by over 85percent when switching to the Dell PowerEdge R810 solution. Wecalculated this by taking the overall wattage from the HP ProLiantDL385 solution, then multiplying the server wattage times 24 andthe storage wattage times 12. We contrast this with the totalpower consumption of the Dell PowerEdge R810 solution. Lowerwattage is better.
