Table 2-2 outlines the recommended RAID solution based onthe usage of the server.• Table 2-2: Application Vs RAID configurationsRAID LevelApplicationConcatenated 0 1 10 5 50EmailDatabaseWebOn-linetransactionFile -ArchivalFile - UserFile storesStreamingMediaRecommended Not Recommended PossibleGeneral RAID Configuration GuidelinesRAID 0RAID 0 is generally not a recommended solution due to lack of redundancy and dataprotection. However, it may be utilized in situations where these are not required andmaximum storage capacity and performances are essential.RAID 1A RAID 1 solution, while not ideal for most servers, could be utilized for small workgroupservers or servers with low storage capacity and growth requirements. Any serversbeyond a small workgroup server are likely to need more storage and consequently, amore efficient RAID solution.RAID 10RAID 10 has good I/O performance, excellent availability and redundancy. The biggestdrawback is the higher relative cost for significantly lower storage capacity. This RAIDconfiguration should be used in situations where the maximum availability, redundancyand performance are the priority considerations.
