System Overview 1-7NOTE: For systems running the Microsoft Windows ® 95 operating system, the functions provided by the ICU are handled by the Device Manager, whichcan be accessed by double-clicking the System icon in the Control Panel.Windows 95 documentation provides instructions on using the Device Managerto manage resources and resolve conflicts. After all legacy cards have been configured by the operating system or with theICU, the computer automatically assigns any required memory space, IRQlines, and DMA channels to any installed Plug and Play ISA expansion cardsand PCI expansion cards the next time the computer is rebooted. Chapter 4,“Using the ISA Configuration Utility,” in the User’s Guide describes the ICUand provides instructions for using it to configure the computer. The five expansion slots include two ISA expansion-card connectors and fivePCI expansion-card connectors. (The two ISA expansion-card connectors shareexpansion slot space with two of the PCI expansion-card connectors, resultingin a total of five expansion slots.) The expansion-card connectors are located ona riser board (see Figure 1-5).Figure 1-5. The computer can contain up to two 1-inch-high hard-disk drives orone 1.6-inch-high hard-disk drive and one 1-inch-high hard-disk drive. Themini tower chassis also supports the installation of a third SCSI hard-disk drivein its own drive bracket.NOTE: SCSI devices require a SCSI host adapter card. Installing a third wideSCSI hard-disk drive requires a three-connector 68-pin SCSI cable, which isprovided with the upgrade kit. For detailed information about installing SCSIdevices, see Chapter 9, “Installing Drives,” in the User’s Guide.ISA2ISA1PCI5PCI1JHDLED connector
