Enclosure Failover when Two EMMs are InstalledControl and monitoring of the expansion enclosure elements can be transferred from one EMM toanother in the event of an EMM failure. A failover occurs whenever network communication stopsbetween an EMM and its peer.In the event of an EMM failure, the functioning EMM activates the amber status LED of the failed EMM.The functioning EMM then manages all aspects of the enclosure, including monitoring and controllingthe enclosure LEDs, power supply units, and fans.SC400/SC420 Expansion Enclosure DrivesDell Enterprise hard disk drives (HDDs) and Dell Enterprise solid-state drives (eSSDs) are the only drivesthat can be installed in SC400/SC420 expansion enclosures. If a non-Dell Enterprise drive is installed, theStorage Center prevents the drive from being managed. The drives in an SC400 expansion enclosure are installed horizontally. The drives in an SC420 expansionenclosure are installed vertically. The indicators on the drives provide status and activity information.Figure 5.
