12Calibration and AdjustmentCalibration technically means todetermine the difference betweenthe weighing instrument readoutand the actual weight on the platformto determine the accuracy. Adjust-ment means to bring a weighinginstrument to the level of accuracyrequired for its use and adjusted.Although the term “calibration” isused throughout this manual, as iscommon in the USA, we are referringto “adjustment” (see first paragraph).Your balance was calibrated atthe factory; however, it must bere-calibrated upon installation andsubsequently on a regular basis. The recommended calibration inter-val is once per week, using a certifiedcalibration weight. Calibration mustalso be performed any time thebalance has been moved, leveled,or disconnected from power, as wellas following a significant change inambient temperature. Additionalcalibration may be required forcompliance with ISO/GLP standards.Note on Verified Balances Usedin Legal Metrology:Before using your balance in legalmetrology, perform internal calibra-tion at the place of installation.External Calibration/Adjustment*1. Remove all items from the balance.2. Press TARE.3. Carefully center the calibrationweight on the weighing pan.4. Press the key.5. The display shows ”CAL“ andthe weight.6. When calibration is complete, theweight value is displayed and thebalance returns to the normalweighing mode.Internal Calibration (PI models only)1. Remove all items from the balance.2. Press TARE.3. Press the key.4. The display shows ”CAL Internal“and calibration is performedautomatically.5. When calibration/adjustment iscomplete, the balance automaticallyreturns to the normal weighingmode.Note:If ”Internal Cal“ is deactivated (”Off“in the operating menu), only externalcalibration can be performed. If calibration/adjustment cannotbe completed, an error messageis displayed. See ”TroubleshootingGuide“ for details on error codes andmessages.* on verified PI … A models, external calibration must be performedby a Denver service technician.
