Hold gas regulator withwrench when connecting it to gaspiping and/or fittings.Figure 13 - Gas Connection* Purchase the optional A.G.A. design-certified manual shutoff valve from your dealer. SeeAccessories, page 28.** Minimum inlet pressure for purpose of input adjustment.CONNECTING TO GASSUPPLYWARNING: A qualified serviceperson must connect heater to gassupply. Follow all local codes.Installation Items NeededBefore installing heater, make sure you havethe items listed below.• piping (check local codes)• sealant (resistant to propane/LP gas)• manual shutoff valve *• test gauge connection *• sediment trap• tee joint• pipe wrench* An A.G.A. design-certified manual shutoffvalve with 1/8" NPT tap is an acceptablealternative to test gauge connection. Pur-chase the optional A.G.A. design-certifiedmanual shutoff valve from your dealer. SeeAccessories, page 28.CAUTION: Use only new, black iron or steel pipe. Inter-nally-tinned copper tubing maybe used in certain areas. Checkyour local codes. Use pipe of 1/2"diameter or greater to allowproper gas volume to heater. Ifpipe is too small, undue loss ofpressure will occur.Installation must include a manual shutoff valve, union, and plugged 1/8" NPT tap. Locate NPTtap within reach for test gauge hook up. NPT tapmust be upstream from heater (see Figure 13).Apply pipe joint sealant lightly to malethreads. This will prevent excess sealantfrom going into pipe. Excess sealant in pipecould result in clogged heater valves.CAUTION: Use pipe joint seal-ant that is resistant to liquid pe-troleum (LP) gas.We recommend that you install a sedimenttrap in supply line as shown in Figure 13.Locate sediment trap where it is within reachfor cleaning. Install in piping system betweenfuel supply and heater. Locate sediment trapwhere trapped matter is not likely to freeze. Asediment trap traps moisture and contami-nants. This keeps them from going into heatercontrols. If sediment trap is not installed or isinstalled wrong, heater may not run properly.WARNING: Never connectheater to private (non-utility) gaswells. This gas is commonlyknown as wellhead gas.8. Reattach heater base to mountingbrackets. Tighten nuts firmly.9. Connect to gas supply. See Connect-ing To Gas Supply.
