Remove knockout indentation on refracto-ry or firebrick wall located above refractoryhearth floor. Knockout indentation mustbe firmly tapped with any solid object,such as a 1/2" dowel, until it is released.Remove fragmented portions of refractory(see Figure 21).2. Remove gas line cover plate located oneither side of fireplace and pull out insu-lation from gas line conduit sleeve. Saveinsulation for reuse.3. Run a 1/2" black iron gas line into fire-place through rear at gas line conduitsleeve (if using a raised platform, addheight). Provide sufficient gas line intofireplace chamber for fitting connection(see Figure 22).Note: Secure incoming gas line to woodframing to provide rigidity for threadedend.4. Repack insulation around gas line and intosleeve opening. Seal any gaps betweengas line and refractory knockout hole withrefractory cement or commercial furnacecement. Install gas appliance or cap offgas line if desired.CAUTION: All gas piping andconnections must be tested forleaks after installation is com-pleted. After ensuring that gasvalve is on, apply soap and watersolution to all connections andjoints. Bubbles forming show aleak. Correct all leaks at once.DO NOT USE AN OPEN FLAMEFOR LEAK TESTING AND DONOT OPERATE ANY APPLIANCEIF A LEAK IS DETECTED.
