SeriesSAFETYINFORMATIONWARNINGSIMPORTANT: Read this Owner’sManual carefully and completelybefore trying to assemble, oper-ate, or service this heater. Im-proper use of this heater cancause serious injury or death fromburns, fire, explosion, electricalshock, and carbon monoxidepoisoning.DANGER: Carbon monoxidepoisoning may lead to death!Carbon Monoxide Poisoning: Earlysigns of carbon monoxide poisoning re-semble the flu, with headaches, dizziness,and/or nausea. If you have these signs, theheater may not be working properly. Getfresh air at once! Have heater serviced.Some people are more affected by carbonmonoxide than others. These include preg-nant women, persons with heart or lungdisease or anemia, those under the influenceof alcohol, and those at high altitudes.Make certain you read and understand allWarnings. Keep this manual for reference.It is your guide to safe and proper operationof this heater.• Use only kerosene or No. 1 fuel oil toavoid risk of fire or explosion. Never usegasoline, naphtha, paint thinners, alco-hol, or other highly flammable fuels.• Fuelinga) Personnel involved with fueling shallbe qualified and thoroughly familiarwith the manufacturer’s instructionsand applicable federal, state, and lo-cal regulations regarding the safe fu-eling of heating units.b) Only the type of fuel specified on theheater’s data plate shall be used.c) All flame, including the pilot light, if any,shall be extinguished and the heater al-lowed to cool, prior to fueling.d) During fueling, all fuel lines and fuel-line connections shall be inspected forleaks. Any leaks shall be repaired priorto returning the heater to service.e) At no time shall more than one day’ssupply of heater fuel be stored insidea building in the vicinity of the heater.Bulk fuel storage shall be outside thestructure.f) All fuel storage shall be located aminimum of 25 feet from heaters,torches, welding equipment, and simi-lar sources of ignition (exception: thefuel reservoir integral with the heaterunit).g) Whenever possible, fuel storage shallbe confined to areas where floor pen-etrations do not permit fuel to driponto or be ignited by a fire at lowerelevation.h) Fuel storage shall be in accordancewith the federal, state, or local author-ity having jurisdiction.• Never use heater where gasoline, paintthinner, or other highly flammable vaporsare present.• Follow all local ordinances and codeswhen using heater.• Heaters used in the vicinity of tarpaulins,canvas, or similar enclosure materialsshall be located a safe distance from suchmaterials. The recommended minimumsafe distance is 10 feet. It is further rec-ommended that these enclosure materi-als be of a fire retardant nature. Theseenclosure materials shall be securely fas-tened to prevent them from igniting orfrom upsetting the heater due to windaction.• Use only in well-vented areas. Beforeusing heater, provide at least a three-square-foot opening of fresh, outside airfor each 100,000 Btu/Hr of rating. Thisheater produces carbon monoxide, whichis listed by the State of California as areproductive toxin under Proposition 65.• Use only in places free of flammable va-pors or high dust content.• Use only the electrical voltage and fre-quency specified on model plate.• Use only a three-prong, grounded exten-sion cord.• Minimum heater clearances from com-bustibles:Outlet: 8 Ft. Sides: 4 Ft.Top: 4 Ft. Rear: 4 Ft.• Locate heater on a stable and level sur-face if heater is hot or running or a firemay occur.• When moving or storing heater, keepheater in a level position or fuel spillagemay occur.• Keep children and animals away fromheater.• Unplug heater when not in use.• When used with thermostat, heater maystart anytime.• Never use heater in living or sleepingareas.• Never block air inlet (rear) or air outlet(front) of heater.• Never move, handle, refuel, or service ahot, operating, or plugged-in heater.• Never attach duct work to front or rearof heater.• Approved by the New York City FireDepartment under certificate of approval#4803, #4860, #4908, or #4909. To beused only at construction sites in accor-dance with applicable New York CityCodes, Regulations, Rules, Directives,Permits, etc. |
