Inspect these areas ofheater before each use. Haveheater inspected yearly by aqualified service person. Heatermay need more frequent clean-ing due to excessive lint fromcarpeting, bedding material, pethair, etc.WARNING: Failure to keepthe primary air opening(s) ofthe burner(s) clean may result insooting and property damage.ODS/PILOT AND BURNERUse a vacuum cleaner, pressurized air or small, soft bristled brush to clean.BURNER PILOT AIR INLETThe primary air inlet hole allows the properamount of air to mix with the gas. This provides aclean burning flame. Keep this hole clear of dust, dirt and lint. Clean this air inlet hole prior to eachheating season. A blocked air hole will create soot.We recommend that you clean the unit every threemonths during operation and have heater inspectedyearly by a qualified service person. We also recommend that you keep the burnertube and pilot assembly clean and free of dust anddirt. To clean these parts we recommend usingcompressed air no greater than 30 PSI. Your localcomputer store, hardware store or home center maycarry compressed air in a can. If using compressedair in a can, please follow the directions on the can.If you don’t follow directions on the can, you coulddamage the pilot assembly.Figure 25 - Pilot Inlet Air(Propane/LP Pilot Shown)Pilot Air Inlet1. Shut off the unit, including the pilot. Allowthe unit to cool for at least thirty minutes.2. Inspect burner, pilot for dust and dirt.3. Blow air across the ports/slots and holes in theburner.4. Never insert objects into the pilot tube.Clean the pilot assembly also. A yellow tip on thepilot flame indicates dust and dirt in the pilot as-sembly. There is a small pilot air inlet about twoinches from where the pilot flame comes out ofthe pilot assembly (see Figure 25). With the unitoff, lightly blow air through the air inlet. You mayblow through a drinking straw if compressed airis not available.Pilot AssemblyCABINETAir PassagewaysUse pressurized air to clean.ExteriorUse a soft cloth dampened with a mild soap andwater mixture.
