Follow the gassupplierʼs instructions.• If you cannot reach your gas supplier, callthe fire department.C. Use only your hand to push in or turn thegas control knob. Never use tools. If theknob will not push in or turn by hand, donʼttry to repair it, call a qualified service tech-nician or gas supplier. Force or attemptedrepair may result in a fire or explosion.D. Do not use this appliance if any part hasbeen under water. Immediately call aqualified service technician to inspect theappliance and to replace any part of thecontrol system and any gas control whichhas been under water.LIGHTINGINSTRUCTIONSWARNING:• If fireplace has glass doors,never operate this heater withglass doors closed. If you oper-ate heater with doors closed,heat buildup inside fireplacewill cause glass to burst. Alsoif fireplace opening has vents atthe bottom, you must open thevents before operating heater.• You must operate this heaterwith a fireplace screen inplace. Make sure fireplacescreen is closed before run-ning heater.NOTICE: During initial operationof new heater, burning logs willgive off a paper-burning smell.Orange flame will also be pres-ent. Open damper or window tovent smell. This will only last afew hours.Note: Home owners generally prefer to op-erate their heater with the chimney damperclosed. This will put all the heat into the room.However, there may be times you will desirethe full flames of the HI heat setting but willfind the heat output excessive. You can openthe chimney damper (if you have one) fully orpartially to release some of the heat.WARNING: Damper handlewill be hot if heater has beenrunning.1. STOP! Read the safety information column 1.2. Make sure equipment shutoff valve is fullyopen.3. Turn control knob clockwise to theOFF position.4. Wait five (5) minutes to clear out any gas.Then smell for gas, including near the floor.If you smell gas, STOP! Follow “B” in thesafety information, column 1. If you donʼtsmell gas, go to the next step.
