When the thermocouple cools, the heater will shut down.If pilot flame pattern is incorrect, as shown inFigure 40• turn heater off (see To Turn Off Gas to Appli-ance, page 21)• see Troubleshooting, page 25Note: The correct pilot flame on natural gas unitswill have a slight curve, but flame should be blueand have no yellow or orange color.Figure 39 - Correct Pilot Flame Pattern(propane/LP ignitor shown)Figure 40 - Incorrect Pilot Flame Pattern(propane/LP ignitor shown)Pilot BurnerThermocouplePilot Burner ThermocoupleBURNER FLAME PATTERNFigure 41 shows a correct burner flame pattern.Figure 42 shows an incorrect burner flame pattern. If burner flame pattern is incorrect,• turn heater off (see To Turn Off Gas to Appli-ance, page 21)• see Troubleshooting, page 25Figure 41 - Correct Flame Pattern withControl Knob Set to High FlameFigure 42 - Incorrect Flame Pattern withControl Knob Set to High FlameApprox. 3-6"Above Topof LogsMore Than8" AboveTop of LogsBURNER PRIMARY AIR HOLESAir is drawn into the burner through the holes inthe fitting at the burner entrance. These holes maybecome blocked with dust or lint. Periodicallyinspect these holes for any blockage and clean ifneeded. Blocked air holes will create soot.MAIN BURNERPeriodically inspect all burner flame holes with theheater running. All slotted burner flame holes shouldbe open with yellow flame present. All round burnerflame holes should be open with a small blue flamepresent. Some burner flame holes may becomeblocked by debris or rust, with no flame present. Ifso, turn off heater and let cool. Remove blockage.Blocked burner flame holes will create soot.CLEANING ANDMAINTENANCEWARNING: Turn off heaterand let cool before cleaning.CAUTION: You must keepcontrol areas, burner, and circu-lating air passageways of heaterclean. Inspect these areas ofheater before each use. Haveheater inspected yearly by aqualified service person. Heatermay need more frequent clean-ing due to excessive lint fromcarpeting, bedding material, pethair, etc.
