Figure 40 shows anincorrect pilot flame pattern. The incorrect pilot flame is nottouching the thermocouple. This will cause the thermocouple tocool. When the thermocouple cools, the heater will shut down.If pilot flame pattern is incorrect, as shown in Figure 40• turn heater off (see To Turn Off Gas to Appliance, page 19 [Ther-mostat-Controlled Models], page 20 [Manually-ControlledModels], or page 22 [Remote-Ready Models])• see Troubleshooting, pages 25 through 27Note: The pilot flame on natural gas units will have a slight curve, but flame should be blue and have no yellow or orange color.OPERATING HEATERContinuedFigure 37 - Setting the Selector switch, Control Knob, and FlameAdjustment Knob for Remote OperationIMPORTANT: This remote control has been specially engi-neered to take an air temperature sample every 5.5 minutesin the auto mode. It will not respond immediately to the tem-perature setting being turned up or down.IMPORTANT: The hand-held remote control unit must benear the heater. Do not keep the hand-held remote controlunit too close to the heater. The thermostat on the hand-held remote control unit will heat up too quickly and turnthe heater off.3. To turn the burner off, press the AUTO/ON/OFF button un-til OFF lights. The pilot will remain lit.IMPORTANT: To turn the pilot off, manually turn the con-trol knob on the heater to the OFF position.Figure 38 - Thermostat Hand-Held Remote Control UnitSelections (GHRCTA Only)Increases RoomTemperature inAUTO ModeDecreases RoomTemperature inAUTO ModeTurns BurnersOn or Off andAllows You toChoose the AutoSettingShowsTemperatureSettingThe Log Heaterwill AutomaticallyCycle betweenPilot and the HeatSetting that hasbeen SelectedOPERATING HEATER (REMOTE-READY MODELS)Optional Remote Operation (Cont.)INSPECTING BURNERSPilot Flame PatternBurner Primary Air HolesMain BurnerONOFFREMOTEOFFPILOTONLOIHSelector Switch in Remote Position(Optional Remote Control)Control Knob inOn PositionFlame Adjustment KnobFigure 39 - Correct Pilot FlamePattern (Your pilot may varyfrom pilots shown)Pilot BurnerThermocouplePilot BurnerThermocoupleFigure 40 - Incorrect PilotFlame Pattern (Your pilot mayvary from pilots shown)BURNER PRIMARY AIR HOLESAir is drawn into the burner through the holes in the fitting at theburner entrance. These holes may become blocked with dust or lint.Periodically inspect these holes for any blockage and clean ifneeded. Blocked air holes will create soot.MAIN BURNERPeriodically inspect all burner flame holes with the heater running. All slotted burner flame holes should be open with yellow flamepresent. All round burner flame holes should be open with a smallblue flame present. Some burner flame holes may become blockedby debris or rust, with no flame present. If so, turn off heater and letcool. Remove blockage. Blocked burner flame holes will create soot.
