Turn off any electric power to the appli-ance if service is to be performed.4. Turn control knob clockwise to theOFF position.5. Wait five minutes to clear out any gas.Then smell for gas, including near thefloor. If you smell gas, STOP! Follow “B”in the safety information, page 12. If youdon’t smell gas, go to the next step.6. Thermostat Models: Turn control knobcounterclockwise to the PILOTposition. Press in control knob for five (5)seconds.Manual Models: Press in and turn controlknob counterclockwise to the PI-LOT position. Keep control knob pressedin for five (5) seconds.7. With control knob pressed in, push downand release ignitor button. This will lightpilot. The pilot is attached to the front ofburner. Note: You may be running thisheater for the first time after hooking up togas supply. If so, you may need to press incontrol knob for 30 seconds or more. Thiswill allow air to bleed from the gas system.If needed, keep pressing ignitor button untilpilot lights. If ignitor does not light pilot, re-fer to Troubleshooting, page 16 or contact aqualified service person or gas supplier forrepairs. Until repairs are made, light pilotwith match. To light pilot with match, seeManual Lighting Procedure, page 14.8. Keep control knob pressed in for 30 sec-onds after lighting pilot. After 30 seconds,release control knob.• If control knob does not pop up whenreleased, contact a qualified serviceperson or gas supplier for repairs.Note: If pilot goes out, repeat steps 4 thru7. Thermostat models have a safety inter-lock system. Wait one (1) minute beforelighting pilot again.9. Turn control knob counterclockwiseto desired heating level. The main burnershould light.
