www.desatech.com111026-01F 13A fireplace equipped with glass doors oper-ates mush differently than a fireplace with anopen front. A fireplace with glass doors has alimited amount of air for combustion. Exces-sive heat within the fireplace can result if toolarge a fire is built or if the combustion air gateis not completely open. The following tips should be followed to as-sure that both the fireplace and the glass doorretain their beauty and function properly. Boththe flue damper and the glass doors must befully opened before starting the fire. This willprovide sufficient combustion air and maintainsafe temperatures in the firebox.IMPORTANT: The glass must be allowed towarm slowly and evenly. The tempered glass willwithstand a gradual temperature rise to 550° F,which is more than a normal fire will generate.Such materials as pitch/wax laden logs, very drymill end lumber and large amounts of paper orcardboard boxes can create an excessively hotfire and should not be burned in this fireplace.Always keep the fire well back from the doorsand never allow flames to contact the glass.WARNING: Fireplacesequipped with glass doorsshould be operated only withdoors fully opened or doors fullyclosed. Doors, if left partly open, may draw gas and flame out of thefireplace opening creating risksof both fire and smoke.Cleaning GlassClean the glass with any commercial glasscleaner or soap and water. Do not use anyabrasive material to clean the glass. Do notclean the glass with any cool water is the glassis still hot from the fire and smoke.A gas line or gas log lighter may be installedfor the purpose of installing a vented or vent-free decorative gas appliance incorporating anautomatic shutoff device and complying withthe Standard for Decorative Gas Appliances forInstallation in Vented Fireplaces, ANSI Z21.60 orAmerican Gas Association draft requirements forGas Fired Log Lighters for Wood Burning Fire-places, Draft NO. 4 dated August, 1993.OpeRatiOn andMaintenanceguidelinesContinuedIf you wish to install an unvented (vent-free)gas log set, only unvented gas log sets whichhave been found to comply with the standardfor unvented room heaters, ANSI Z21.11.2 areto be installed in this fireplace.OUTSIDE AIR AND DAMPERHANDLE OPERATIONThe damper handle, which opens and closesthe damper blade, is located in the upper frontface of the fireplace.
