Hori-zontal installations using round termination requireexterior portion of wall firestop available only invent kit HTK (see Figure 14, page 11).1. Set the fireplace in its desired location anddetermine the route your horizontal ventingwill take. Do not secure the fireplace untilall venting has been installed. Some installa-tions require sliding the fireplace in and outof position to make final venting connections.Figures 14 through 18 on pages 11 through 13show different configurations for venting withhorizontal termination that will help you decidewhich application best suits your installation.Check to see if wall studs or roof rafters are inthe path of your desired venting route. If theyare, you may want to adjust the location of thefireplace.2. Direct vent pipe sections and components aredesigned with special twist-lock connections.Twist-Lock procedure: The female ends ofthe pipes have locking lugs (indentations). These lugs will slide straight into matchingslots on the male ends of adjacent pipes.Push pipe sections together and twist onesection clockwise approximately one-quar-ter turn until the sections are fully locked(see Figure 8). Note: Horizontal runs of ventmust be supported every three feet. Use wallstraps for this purpose.3. Use a 45° elbow to connect venting systemto fireplace flue collar. The elbow is designedto be twist-locked onto the flue collar asdescribed in step 2. IMPORTANT: Do notattempt to alter the configuration of the elbowby cutting, twisting, bending, etc.4. Assemble the desired combination of pipe andelbows to the fireplace flue collar. If there arelong portions of venting run, pre-assembledpipe sections may be installed as subassem-blies for convenience.VENTING INSTallaTIONINSTRUCTIONSContinued5. Carefully determine the location where the ventpipe assembly will penetrate the outside wall. The center of the hole should line up with thecenter-line of the horizontal vent pipe. Mark thewall for a 10 3/4" x 10 3/4" square hole. Cut andframe the square hole in the exterior wall wherethe vent will be terminated. If the wall beingpenetrated is constructed of noncombustiblematerial, such as masonry block or concrete,a 8 1/2" hole with zero clearance is acceptable(see Figure 9).WARNING: Do not recessvent termination into any wall. This will cause a fire hazard.(FramingDetail)10 3 /4 "10 3 /4 " Inside Framing10 3 /4 "8 1 /2 "Vent O peningCombustible WallVent OpeningNoncombustible WallFigure 8 - Vent Pipe ConnectionsFigure 9 - Vent Opening RequirementsCenterof HoleFemaleLocking LugsMaleSlots
