Wiring errors can causeimproper and dangerous operation. Verify properoperation after servicing.INSTALLING GAS PIPING TO FIREPLACELOCATIONWARNING: A qualified service person must con-nect fireplace to gas supply. Follow all local codes.CAUTION: For propane/LP units, never connectfireplace directly to the propane/LP supply. Thisheater requires an external regulator (not supplied).Install the external regulator between the fireplaceand propane/LP supply.Installation Items NeededBefore installing fireplace, make sure you have the items listed below.• external regulator (supplied by installer)• piping (check local codes)• sealant (resistant to propane/LP gas)• equipment shutoff valve *• test gauge connection *• sediment trap• tee joint• pipe wrench• approved flexible gas line with gas connector (if allowed by localcodes)* A CSA design-certified equipment shutoff valve with 1/8" NPT tapis an acceptable alternative to test gauge connection. Purchase theCSA design-certified equipment shutoff valve from your retailer. For propane/LP connection only, the installer must supply an externalregulator. The external regulator will reduce incoming gas pressure. You must reduce incoming gas pressure to between 11 and 14 inchesof water. If you do not reduce incoming gas pressure, fireplaceregulator damage could occur. Install external regulator with thevent pointing down as shown in Figure 31, page 19. Pointing thevent down protects it from freezing rain or sleet.Figure 30 - External Regulator with Vent Pointing Down(Propane/LP Only)Propane/LPSupply TankExternalRegulatorVentPointingDown5. Mount the speed control box against the mounting plate providedin the lower fireplace cavity by placing the plastic control shaftforward through the round hole (see Figure 26, page 17).6. While supporting speed control, secure control shaft with locknut by pushing and turning lock nut with pliers clockwise untilit is tight against mounting plate. Place control knob providedon shaft (see Figure 26, page 17).7. Check to make sure that the power cord is completely clear of theblower wheel and that there are no other foreign objects in blowerwheel. Also double check all wire leads and make sure wire routingis not pinched or in a precarious position. Correct accordingly.8. Turn on power to duplex outlet if previously turned off per thewarning in column 2, page 16.9. Plug in blower power cord to duplex outlet.10. The blower will only run when the speed control knob is in theON position and the thermal switch senses temperature after thefireplace begins to heat up. The blower speed can be adjusted byrotating the control knob. To turn off, turn knob fully counterclock-wise until it clicks off. If the blower is ON and has been runningwith the fireplace operating, the blower will continue to run for ashort time after the fireplace has been turned off. As the thermalswitch cools down, the blower shuts down automatically.11. Peel off the backing paper and stick the supplied wiring diagramdecal on the firebox bottom approximately 12" in front of theblower (see Figure 27, page 17).FIREPLACE INSTALLATIONContinuedFIREPLACE INSTALLATIONInstalling Optional Blower Accessory (Cont.)Installing Gas Piping to Fireplace LocationBlueVariableFan Switch Fan Switch(N.O.)GreenWhiteOn110/115V.A.C.BlowerMotorBlackOff 12 Black
