Only a qualified service person shouldservice and repair log set.POSSIBLE CAUSE REMEDYOBSERVED PROBLEMNote: For additional help, visit DESA International’s technicalservice web site at www.desatech.com.Note: All troubleshooting items are listed in order of operation.1. Poor fuel quality2. Fireplace venting system not draftingproperly3. Excessive flame impingement orblockage4. Improper fuel/air mixture5. Excessive gas supply/pressure1. Passage of air/gas across irregular sur-faces2. Excessive gas pressure on natural gasunits1. Incorrect gas supply or pressure2. Blocked burner orifice or burner mani-fold ports3. Improper burner orifice size1. Ignitor electrode not connected to igni-tor cable2. Ignitor cable pinched or wet3. Bad ground on piezo ignitor4. Broken ignitor cable5. Bad piezo ignitor6. Ignitor electrode broken7. Ignitor electrode positioned wrong1. Gas supply turned off or equipmentshutoff valve closed2. Control knob not in PILOT position3. Control knob not pressed in while inPILOT position4. Air in gas lines when installed5. Pilot adjustment screw closed6. Pilot is clogged7. Low gas pressureLog set is smoking/sooting excessively(Note: It is natural and unavoidable forvented gas log sets to produce moderatelevels of carbon (soot) where flamescontact the logs. This is especially truewith propane/LP gas.)Burner is excessively noisy(Note: The movement and combustion ofgas will create low, unavoidable levels ofnoise.)Burner flame is too low or too highWhen ignitor button is pressed, there is nospark at pilotWhen ignitor button is pressed, there isspark at pilot but no ignition1. Contact local natural or propane/LP gascompany2. Adjust damper wide open and/or havefireplace and venting professionallycleaned and checked3. Separate the logs to allow more flamepassage4. Remove any foreign items from theflame pattern and/or check for properorifice sizing5. Preheat flue in very cold weather1. Relieve any tight bends or kinks in gassupply line2. Check/reset gas regulator pressure (seeFigure 10, page 7)1. Check for proper gas supply pressure2. Free burner orifice and manifold portsof any burrs, paint, or other blockage3. Verify proper burner orifice sizing (seeFigure 2, page 4)1. Reconnect ignitor cable2. Free ignitor cable if pinched by anymetal or tubing. Keep ignitor cable dry3. Scrape away paint on bracket for bettercontact with ground on piezo ignitor4. Replace ignitor cable5. Replace piezo ignitor6. Replace electrode7. Reposition electrode1. Turn on gas supply or open equipmentshutoff valve2. Turn control knob to PILOT position3. Press in control knob while in PILOTposition4. Continue holding down control knob.Repeat igniting operation until air is re-moved5. Adjust pilot flame for approximately2" blue flame6. Clean pilot (see Cleaning and Mainte-nance, page 10) or replace pilot assembly7. Replace gas controlTROUBLESHOOTING
