If needed,keep pressing ignitor button until pilotlights.Note: If pilot does not stay lit, contact aqualified service person or gas supplier forrepairs. Until repairs are made, light pilotwith match. To light pilot with match, seeManual Lighting Procedure, page 21.8. Keep control knob pressed in for 30 secondsafter lighting pilot. After 30 seconds, releasecontrol knob.• If control knob does not pop out whenreleased, contact a qualified service personor gas supplier for repairs.Note: If pilot goes out, repeat steps 4through 8, page 20 and above.9. Slightly push in and turn control knob coun-terclockwise to the ON position. Ifusing a hand-held remote control accessory,go to Optional Hand-Held Remote Operationon page 21.10. Wait one minute and put switch in ON posi-tion to light burners. Note: AUTO is onlyfunctional when using GWMT1 or GWMS2optional accessories. If hand-held remotecontrol is installed but not being used, slideremote selector switch to ON (It must be inthis position for burners to light. Switch willbe in REMOTE position if using hand-heldremote).11. Set flame adjustment knob to any levelbetween HI and LO.CAUTION: Do not try to ad-just heating levels by using theequipment shutoff valve.WARNING: Make sure theremote selector switch is in theOFF position when you are awayfrom home for long periods oftime. Heater will come on auto-matically with selector switch inthe ON position.Note: Home owners generally prefer to op-erate their heater with the chimney damperclosed. This will put all the heat into the room.However, there may be times you will desirethe full flames of the HI heat setting but willfind the heat output excessive. You can openthe chimney damper (if you have one) fully orpartially to release some of the heat.WARNING: Damper handlewill be hot if heater has beenrunning.1. STOP! Read the safety information onpage 19.2. Make sure equipment shutoff valve is fullyopen.3. Set switch to OFF position.4. Press in and turn control knob clockwiseto the OFF position (see Figure 28).5. Wait five (5) minutes to clear out any gas.Then smell for gas, including near the floor.If you smell gas, STOP! Follow “B” in thesafety information, page 19. If you don’tsmell gas, go to the next step.6. Press in and turn control knob counter-clockwise to the PILOT position.Press in control knob for five (5) seconds(see Figure 29).Note: You may be running this heater forthe first time after hooking up to gas sup-ply. If so, the control knob may need to bepressed in for 30 seconds or more.
