Check items for shipping damage. Ifheater is damaged, promptly informdealer where you bought heater.Carbon Monoxide Poisoning: Earlysigns of carbon monoxide poisoning re-semble the flu, with headaches, dizziness,and/or nausea. If you have these signs, theheater may not be working properly. Getfresh air at once! Have heater serviced.Some people are more affected by carbonmonoxide than others. These include preg-nant women, persons with heart or lungdisease or anemia, those under the influenceof alcohol, and those at high altitudes.Make certain you read and understand allWarnings. Keep this manual for reference.It is your guide to safe and proper operationof this heater.• Use only kerosene or No. 1 fuel oil toavoid risk of fire or explosion. Never usegasoline, naphtha, paint thinners, alco-hol, or other highly flammable fuels.• Fuelinga) Personnel involved with fueling shallbe qualified and thoroughly familiarwith the manufacturer’s instructionsand applicable federal, state, and lo-cal regulations regarding the safefueling of heating units.b)Only the type of fuel specified on theheater’s data plate shall be used.WARNINGS: IMPORTANT:Read this Owner’s Manual care-fully and completely before try-ing to assemble, operate, or ser-vice this heater. Improper use ofthis heater can cause serious in-jury or death from burns, fire,explosion, electrical shock, andcarbon monoxide poisoning.SAFETYINFORMATIONDANGER: Carbon monoxidepoisoning may lead to death!WARNINGSc) All flame, including the pilot light,if any, shall be extinguished andthe heater allowed to cool, priorto fueling.d)During fueling, all fuel lines and fuel-line connections shall be inspected forleaks. Any leaks shall be repaired priorto returning the heater to service.e) At no time shall more than one day’ssupply of heater fuel be stored insidea building in the vicinity of the heater.Bulk fuel storage shall be outside thestructure.f) All fuel storage shall be located aminimum of 25 feet from heaters,torches, welding equipment, andsimilar sources of ignition (excep-tion: the fuel reservoir integral withthe heater unit).g)Whenever possible, fuel storage shallbe confined to areas where floor pen-etrations do not permit fuel to driponto or be ignited by a fire at lowerelevation.h)Fuel storage shall be in accordancewith the federal, state, or local au-thority having jurisdiction.• Never use heater where gasoline, paintthinner, or other highly flammable va-pors are present.• Follow all local ordinances and codeswhen using heater.• Heaters used in the vicinity of tarpau-lins, canvas, or similar enclosure ma-terials shall be located a safe distancefrom such materials. The recommendedminimum safe distance is 10 feet. It isfurther recommended that these enclo-sure materials be of a fire retardant na-ture. These enclosure materials shall besecurely fastened to prevent them fromigniting or from upsetting the heaterdue to wind action.• Use only in well-vented areas. Beforeusing heater, provide at least a three-square-foot opening of fresh, outsideair for each 100,000 Btu/Hr of rating.This heater produces carbon monoxide,which is listed by the State of Califor-nia as a reproductive toxin under Propo-sition 65.• Use only in places free of flammablevapors or high dust content.• Use only the electrical voltage and fre-quency specified on model plate.• Use only a three-prong, grounded ex-tension cord.• Minimum heater clearances from com-bustibles:Outlet: 8 Ft. Sides: 4 Ft.Top: 4 Ft. Rear: 4 Ft.• Locate heater on a stable and level sur-face if heater is hot or running or a firemay occur.• When moving or storing heater, keepheater in a level position or fuel spill-age may occur.• Keep children and animals away fromheater.• Unplug heater when not in use.• When used with thermostat, heater maystart anytime.• Never use heater in living or sleepingareas.• Never block air inlet (rear) or air outlet(front) of heater.• Never move, handle, refuel, or servicea hot, operating, or plugged-in heater.• Never attach duct work to front or rearof heater. |
