FILLING THE WATER HEATEROpen all hot water taps. Open isolating valve at the cold water inlet and allow waterheater to fill until water flows through the system. Close each hot water tap after the air isexpelled from its line. As noted previously power is not to be turned on until the waterheater is filled with water.WATER QUALITYYour Dux water heater has been manufactured to suit water conditions of most Australianmetropolitan supplies. Please note that harsh water supplies can have a detrimentaleffect on the water heater and its life expectancy. If you are unsure about your waterquality you can obtain information from your local water supply authority. The water heater is designed for use in areas where the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)content of the water supply is less than 2500 mg/L. In areas where the TDS exceeds600mg/L it is possible that the magnesium alloy anode (supplied in the heater) maybecome over reactive. To alleviate this, the magnesium alloy anode should be replacedwith an aluminium alloy anode, available from your local Dux supplier.• Hard Water Models : Water heaters with an “H” in their model designation (eg.250H136) are factory fitted with an aluminium anode and a special hard waterelement.Water can also be very corrosive, the measure of this is the saturation index, if the watersaturation index is greater than 0.40 a expansion control valve should be fitted and wherethe index is greater than 0.80 the water heater installed should be a Hard Water Model. Please consult our Service Department for advise if required.CAUTION!If the water heater is left in an operating condition and unused for two weeks or more, aquantity of hydrogen (which is highly flammable) may accumulate in the top of the watercylinder. To dissipate this gas safely it is recommended that a hot tap be turned on forseveral minutes at a sink, basin or bath, but not a dishwasher, clothes washer or otherappliance. During this procedure there must be no smoking, open flame or any otherelectrical appliance operating nearby. If hydrogen is discharged through the tap it willprobably make an unusual sound as with air escaping.Where the Water Heater is not installed in accordance with the listed advice thewater heater will not be covered by the Terms of Warranty.SAFETY INFORMATIONWARNING:For safe performance this water heater is fitted with:1. Thermostat.2. Over-temperature energy cut-out.3. Combination Pressure & Temperature relief valve. These devices must not be tampered with or removed. The water heater must not be operated unless each of these devices is fitted and inworking order. The element cover(s) should be removed only by an electrician.
