Transferring - Page 20For certain individuals, transferring can be a difficult task, especially at first. Like manythings, transferring gets easier with practice. With assisted transfers, it is always a goodidea to review the transfer strategy with the client before transferring, and talk themthrough the steps as they are happening. This will help reduce anxiety for the person beingtransferred. There are many different methods of transferring into the EasyStand Glider, whether the transfer is independent or with assistance. There are also a variety of featureson the Glider to help make transferring more manageable. For proper transfer techniques, please seek professional advice from a therapist or physician.Caution: Always lock wheel locks on a wheelchair and the casters on the EasyStand Gliderbefore transferring.Transfer MethodsIndependent Transfer: For those individuals who are able totransfer independently, Altimate Medical has designed the Gliderbase so a wheelchair can be positioned at any angle from parallelto 90 degrees against the edge of the Glider seat (the frontwheelchair caster can even come underneath the front cornerof the seat). The knee pads flip up and out of the way to give theperson room to bring their legs in and position their feet. Theknee pad does not lock in the upright position when transferring,do not grab the knee pad for support. When transferring out ofthe EasyStand, pump the seat up so it is equal to or higher thanthe seat the user is transferring into.Stand Pivot Transfer: A caregiver can assist a patient into thestander using a stand pivot transfer. The caregiver helping withthe stand pivot transfer assists the person out of theirwheelchair to standing, then turns or pivots and sits the persondown on the seat of the stander.Patient Lift Transfer: Caregivers can assist people who have ahigher level of disability by using a patient lift device, or anoverhead ceiling lift to transfer into the EasyStand. The rear legsof the EasyStand Glider are designed to allow room for thelifting device to be used from many different angles. To make thetransfer from a patient lift device, recline the back of thestanding frame slightly. With some patient lift devices it maymake the transfer easier to lift the Glider foot plates up to ahigher position, allowing the transfer device to slide closer to thebase of the Glider. Be sure to reposition the foot plates and backprior to standing.Transferring!
