The function of thesecontrollers is to start, stop, and protect mediumvoltage motors, transformers, capacitors, andother loads. Controllers may be of full voltage,reduced voltage reactor, reduced voltageautotransformer, reduced voltage solid-state, ortwo-speed type. They may control induction orsynchronous machines, and they may benon-reversing or reversing.While this instructional leaflet is dedicated primarilyto full-voltage starting, the other applications listedare an expansion of the principles identified in thisleaflet. This leaflet does not purport to cover allpossible contingencies, variations, and details thatmay arise during operation or maintenance of thisequipment. Contained on this nameplate are thecontroller type and ratings as required by industrystandards. Also contained on this nameplate is thefactory’s general order number. This number shouldbe given to the Eaton sales office if a questionshould arise concerning the equipment or if renew-al parts are required. Refer to Figure 1 for typicallocation of rating nameplates.
