6 3400774700 AGENGLISHOperating conditionsW This product is an UninterruptiblePower Supply (UPS) for computersand their peripherals, televisionsets, stereo systems and videorecorders... It must not be used tosupply other electrical equipment(lighting, heating, householdappliances, etc.).W UPS can be installed in horizontal,vertical position, or placed in Rack2U (optional kit).UPS connectionsW Connect the UPS 1 to theAC-power system via a wall outletwith an earth connector, using thesupplied cord 2 for a UPS withFR/DIN sockets or with the supplycord of your computer for a UPSwith IEC/UNIVERSAL sockets (seefigure A).W Plug critical equipment(computer, monitor, modem, etc.)into the outlets 9 providingbattery backup power and surgeprotection (see figure B), takingcare not to exceed the rated currentindicated in amperes.W Other devices (printer, scanner,fax, etc.) can be connect to thefiltered outlets 8 that providesurge protection (see figure B). Thefiltered outlets are not backed upby battery power in the event of apower outage.W Optional Internet modem /Network connection:A modem or Ethernet data linecan be protected against surges byconnecting it via the UPS. Connectthe existing device cable betweenthe wall outlet and the UPS, anduse a similar cable between theUPS and the device, as indicated infigure C (cable 3 not supplied).W Optional COM connection:The UPS devices withcommunication (COM) socketscan be connected to the computerusing the special USB or serialcable 6 supplied.The software available on theCD-ROM 7 (or downloadablefrom the www.eaton.com site) canbe configured to monitor the UPSand the supply of power to thecomputer (see figures D and F).W Follow the indicated procedure.W At the same time, register for thewarranty on the www.eaton.comsite (see figure G).W Battery charge: The UPS chargesthe battery as soon as it isconnected to the AC outlet, whetherbutton 13 is pressed or not. Whenused for the first time, the batterywill only provide its maximumautonomy after it has been chargedfor 8 hours. It is recommended thatthe UPS be permanently connectedto the AC power supply to ensurethe best possible autonomy.W Switching-on the UPS: pressbutton 13 for about 1 second.W Filtered outlets 8 withoutbattery backup: Equipmentconnected to these outlets issupplied as soon as the AC cord 2is plugged in. They are not affectedby button 13 .W Battery backup outlets 9 :Equipment connected to theseoutlets is supplied as soon asbutton 13 turns green (see figureE). These outlets can be turned oneven if the UPS is not connected toAC power (button 13 flashes).W AC-power disturbance: If ACpower is disturbed or fails, the UPScontinues to operate on batterypower. Button 13 flashes green.In normal mode, the audio alarmbeeps every ten seconds, thenevery three seconds when the endof battery backup time is near. Insilent mode (see the section onsettings), the audio alarm simplybeeps once when the UPS transfersto battery power.W If the power outage lasts longerthan the battery backup time, theUPS shuts down and automaticallyrestarts when power is restored.Following a complete discharge, afew hours are required to rechargethe battery back to full backup time.W To save battery power, it ispossible to press button 13 to cutthe supply of power to the devicesconnected to the battery backupoutlets. |
