vInstruction Manual MN013002ENH03Series NRX with PXR - type RF low voltage power (air) circuit breakers instruction manual MN013002ENH03 September 2016 www.eaton.comWARNINGThe warnings and cautions included as part of theprocedural steps in this manual are for personnelsafety and protection of equipment from damage. Thisexample of a typical warning is intended to familiarizepersonnel with the style of presentation.WARNINGSeries NRX circuit breakers are provided with safety fea-tures. Nevertheless, the voltages, currents, and powerlevels available around operational equipment areextremely dangerous. Under no circumstances shouldinterlocks and other safety features be made inopera-tive, as this may result in death, bodily injury, or prop-erty damage.WARNINGSeries NRX circuit breakers should not under any cir-cumstances be applied outside their nameplate ratings.Operation outside of these ratings could result in death, bodily injury, or property damage.WARNINGNever attempt to disable any interlocks. Doing so couldresult in an electrical fault that could result in death, bodily injury, and/or equipment damage.WARNINGFailure to inspect, clean, and maintain circuit breakerscan reduce equipment life or cause the equipment tonot operate properly under faulty conditions. This couldresult in equipment damage, bodily injury, or evendeath.WARNINGArc chutes and their cover plates must always besecured properly in place before a breaker is installed inits compartment. Failure to do so could result in equip-ment damage, bodily injury, or even death.WARNINGThe circuit breaker mechanism contains stored mechan-ical energy and moving parts and should be operatedwith the front cover and arc chutes in place. Parts maymove forcefully and without warning. If the front coveror arc chutes have been removed, limit contact to thehandle and buttons. Failure to do so may result in seri-ous bodily injury.CAUTIONDo not attempt to lift a breaker or cassette with ordinarycrane hooks or chains. Damage to vital circuit breaker partscould result. Use two appropriate lifting straps when usingany type of lifting device.CAUTIONMake certain that the cassette is properly mounted orseated securely on a work table before attempting to havethe breaker fully extended on the cassette’s drawout rails.Failure to comply could result in the cassette tipping for-ward resulting in equipment damage and/or bodily injury.CAUTIONDo not store equipment on its back. This could result inequipment damage.CAUTIONIt is important to take care when placing a drawout circuitbreaker on its extension rails. If the circuit breaker is notproperly seated on the rails, the breaker could fall causingequipment damage and/or bodily injury.CAUTIONInspection and maintenance procedures should be carriedout only by personnel familiar with the hazards associatedwith working on power circuit breakers. Additionally, theyshould become familiar with the specifics associated withSeries NRX circuit breakers as presented in this manual.IMPORTANTPlease read and understand these instructions beforeattempting to unpack, install, operate, or maintain thisequipment. Study the breaker and its mechanism carefullybefore attempting to operate it on an energized circuit.IMPORTANTA circuit breaker stored for any length of time should beoperated a minimum of five times before it is placed in ser-vice.IMPORTANTThe circuit breaker mechanism is interlocked such thatcharged closing springs are automatically discharged if thecircuit breaker is levered into or out of the cell. Dischargetakes place between the DISCONNECT and TEST positions.IMPORTANTDifferent degrees of access to push-buttons on the frontof the circuit breaker can be achieved through the use ofoptional accessory devices.IMPORTANTBefore doing any work, make sure a drawout breaker islevered out to the TEST, DISCONNECT, or WITHDRAWNposition. During the levering out and levering in of the cir-cuit breaker, be aware of any signs that would indicate thatthe levering process is not working properly. If working ona fixed circuit breaker, bus systems should be de-energizedfor convenience and safety. All circuit breakers should beswitched to the OFF position and the mechanism springsdischarged.!!!!!
