IntroductionThe Hmi-Br is a safety interface intended to be installedin the non-hazardous area to provide an intrinsically safe,Zener clamped, resistively limited output to the EatonMEDC Hmi-5 access panel which is installed within thehazardous area.A.2. InstallationThe Hmi-Br safety interface comprises a single PCBmounted to a DIN rail non-metallic holder. The PCB isfully encapsulated within the holder to form a tamperproof unit. Two user terminals are provided at either endof the unit to allow for connection of intrinsically safe(marked Hazardous) and non-intrinsically safe (markedNon-Hazardous) wiring. In addition to these terminalsthe unit is also provided with a threaded metallic earthstud to allow for the connection of the I.S. safetyearthing. The Hmi-Br safety interface board should be mountedin the non-hazardous area, within an enclosure whichprovides suitable ingress protection and a minimumprotection of IP20.The product must not be installed in an environmentwhere it may be attacked by aggressive substances.Cable termination should be performed by suitablytrained personnel in accordance with IEC EN 60079-14.The non-intrinsically safe terminals are rated for a Um of250VThe HMI-BR is a four-channel device that provides thefollowing entity parameters per connection point. Allconnection points are with respect to the local I.S. Earth.Aud1 Aud2 Dat1 Dat2Uo 26.1 V 26.1 V 7.9 V 7.9 VIo 137.4 mA 137.4 mA 36.3 mA 36.3 mAPo 897 mW 897 mW 72 mW 72 mWCi 0μF 0μF 0μF 0μFLi 0μH 0μH 0μH 0μHote:N Aud1 / Aud2 have a minimum series resistance of 190Ω andDat1 / Dat2 have a minimum series resistance of 217Ω.A.3. MaintenanceThis equipment should require little or no maintenanceduring its working life. However, if abnormal or unusualenvironmental conditions occur due to mechanicaldamage or accidents then visual inspection isrecommendedThe Hmi-Br contains no user replaceable parts and shallnot be repaired by the user. Contact Eaton MEDC Ltd forreplacement if required.A.4. In addition to this, the suitabilityof apparatus to interact with any external equipmentshall be evaluated and stated explicitly on theequipment certification.• The apparatus must be installed within an enclosureproviding a suitable degree of protection as to preventingress of conductive materials with a minimum ratingof IP20.• The ambient local to the apparatus in its finalinstallation shall not exceed the specified ambienttemperature range -40ºC ≤ Ta ≤ +60ºC.• Isolation between the intrinsically safe interfaceand the external enclosure is to be verified uponinstallation by the application of a dielectric strengthtest. The test shall be conducted as follows:• A 500 V dielectric strength test is to beconducted upon assembly between allintrinsically safe circuits and the externalenclosure. Test duration is to be a minimum of1 minute with an applied voltage of 500 V ACrms at a frequency of 48 – 60 Hz or alternativelya voltage of 700 V DC may be applied. Leakagecurrent is not to exceed 5 mA. |
