THE ABSENCE OF THE BARRIERS COULDCAUSE A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE DURING INTERRUPTION OR OPERATIONRESULTING IN DEATH, SEVERE PERSONAL INJURY, AND/OR PROPERTYDAMAGE.The multiple finger primary disconnect contacts are silver plated andwaxed. In order to provide visual indication of the presence of wax,a blue dye is added during the waxing process to give a bluish colorto the disconnect contacts. The wax acts as a conductive lubricantwithout attracting dirt. For this reason the contacts do not requireany additional lubricant.5.3 Stored energy mechanismm WARNINGKEEP HANDS AND FINGERS AWAY FROM THE CIRCUIT BREAKER’SINTERNAL PARTS WHILE THE CIRCUIT BREAKER CONTACTS ARE CLOSEDOR THE CLOSING SPRINGS ARE CHARGED. THE CIRCUIT BREAKERCONTACTS MAY OPEN OR THE CLOSING SPRINGS DISCHARGE CAUSINGA CRUSHING INJURY. DISCHARGE THE SPRINGS AND OPEN THE CIRCUITBREAKERS BEFORE PERFORMING ANY CIRCUIT BREAKER MAINTENANCE,INSPECTION, OR REPAIR.The spring stored energy operating mechanism is arranged verticallyin front of all VCP-W circuit breakers (Figure 5). It includes all theelements for storing the energy, closing and tripping of the circuitbreaker, as well as manual and electrical controls. The manualcontrols are all front accessible. Motion to close and open theinterrupter contacts is provided through operating rods connect-ing the mechanism pole shaft to the bell cranks of the interrupterassemblies.5.3.1 Operation of stored energy mechanismThe mechanism stores the closing energy by charging the closingsprings. The mechanism may rest in any one of the four positionsshown in Figure 20 and as follows:a. Breaker element open, closing springs discharged;b. Breaker element open, closing springs charged;c. Breaker element closed, closing springs discharged; andd. Breaker element closed, closing springs charged.(cont).
