74.2. Prelistening (Program-Monitoring)The HAK is equipped with a prelistening system that enables the monitoring of the maininputs through the VU-meter and the headphones. Thanks to the Program-Monitor function (45) andthe Monitor crossfader (31) it's possible to quickly fade between the two prelistening channels.4.3. Channel gainAll the HAK320 input channels have accessible input sensitivity GAIN (23-37) and ADJ(17) controls. These controls have the function of compensating for differences of level existingbetween the sound sources connected to the table. All input sensivity adjustments must be done very carefully using the VU-METER and/orheadphones as a reference and avoiding that all the red LEDS of the VU-METER light up, otherwiseinput could be clipped (Overload). MIC input gain control is located in back panel (ADJ 17).4.4. Channel equalizationThe tone controls for each of the two main channels provide a +10/-30dB boost/cut at highand low frequencies and +10/-25dB at the mids. This great attenuation range is specially indicatedfor the already famous “kill” effect, which nearly “cuts” the band over which it performs. Followingindications of experienced DJs, we have arrayed the control-knobs of the EQ section horizontally. This placement enables a more comfortable area to work with. Additionally, the HAK320 offers adedicated balance control over each channel. Moreover MICRO channel has two band (bass, treble) tone control.ATTENTION: Use equalization carefully, by boosting too much the low frequency range, you can induce an excessive displacement of the speakers membrane.4.5. Program Reverse SwitchProgram Reverse Switch activation (10) drives sound sources connected to INPUT 1 toINPUT 2 and vice versa but without changing GAIN adjustments.4.6. Replaceable components (faders, crossfader and cut)In addition to an internally modular assembly system, the HAK have mounted in aneasy-to-replace module all the main components that suffer an especially high wear: the two mainfaders, the crossfader and the cut switches. All these components can be substituted by just using ascrewdriver because they have multipin connectors. The HAK320 uses a new generation of faders based on the VCA concept (VCA=VoltageControlled Amplifier), offering an exceptional precision and smoothness. This fader can achieve alifetime of 300.000 cycles, (30 times more than a high quality mechanical fader). After this timeperiod, and if the faders have been constantly abused, they will show signs of malfunction. Toreplace the crossfader, begin disassembling the silver-plated front panel, having removed the frontbuttons first. The crossfader is fitted with two screws and is connected via a multipin connector.
