Chapter 3Connecting the Switch to the Network3 - 8Entering the Private SubnetEnter the private subnet and VLAN of the failed switch, as well as theVLAN for the private metalog subnet. The VLANs must be unique in thenetwork, shared only among the ARX devices in the RON. The defaults(1002 and 1003) may be sufficient for the installation. See the followingexample....The switch's internal subnet requires an IP address and mask.7. Enter the switch's private IP addressin the format nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn.(default=169.254.6.0) #169.254.100.08. Enter the switch's private subnet maskin the format nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn.(default=255.255.255.0) # The private subnet VLAN is used externally for redundancy traffic.Be sure this value does not conflict with existing VLAN IDs.9. Enter the switch's private subnet VLANin the format integer [1‐4095].(default=1002) # 1008 The private subnet metalog VLAN is used for storing file‐changelogs on battery‐backed NVRAM, possibly on a redundant peer.Be sure this value does not conflict with existing VLAN IDs.10. Enter the switch's private subnet metalog VLANin the format integer [1‐4095].(default=1003) # 1009 Finding the UUID of the Failed SwitchWhen a switch imports storage from backend file servers, it marks eachshare with its UUID (Universally-Unique ID). A replacement switch mustuse the same UUID or it will reject all shares imported by its predecessor. Also, you must set the UUID if the switch is brought back to its factorydefaults. A Manufacturing Installation by F5 personnel resets the switchand its UUID.The UUID appears at the top of the output of a show running-configcommand as in the following example from a switch named bstnA. TheUUID is highlighted in bold.; ARX‐2000; Version 6.00.000.12538 (Feb 16 2011 20:14:13) [nbuilds]; Database version: 600000.21; Generated running‐config Tue Feb 22 03:03:19 2011; System UUID 876616f6‐79ac‐11d8‐946f‐958fcb4e6e35; ip private vlan internal 1008 metalog 1009 subnet 169.254.100.0255.255.255.0;terminal character‐set unicode‐utf‐8...If the failed switch was a member of a RON, you can enter the show roncommand from any other RON member. The output from this commandshows the UUID even if the chassis is no longer online.
