8 Chapter 2CONFIGURING YOUR CARD FOR YOUR NETWORKIf you have access points installed on your network you will need thefollowing information to configure your SkyLINE 11Mb Card:• SSID (Service Set Identification): the name of the access point• Address mode: how wireless packets are being converted to Etherneton your wireless network• Encryption: any passwords or keys used by your access point for Wire-less Encryption (WEP)NETWORK MODEConfigure your Network Mode by selecting Ad Hoc or Infrastructurefrom the Network Mode pop-up menu.Ad Hoc modeAd Hoc mode allows wireless computers to be linked on a local areanetwork. In Ad Hoc mode all operations are peer to peer and no accesspoint is required. Ad Hoc networks can only be started when computers arewithin range of each other (approximately 150 feet depending onenvironment). If you select Ad Hoc, you will also select a Channel. Allcomputers must have the same channel and Address Mode selected.Infrastructure modeIn Infrastructure mode, all wireless communication between mobilecomputers and the wired network take place through a wirelessaccess point. If you select Infrastructure mode, you must configurethe wireless card by setting the SSID selection, Address mode andEncryption to correspond to the access point you are using.
