27enDo not direct the power tool against yourself, other per-sons or animals. Danger of injury from sharp or hotapplication tools. Before putting into operation, check the mains connec-tion and the mains plug for damage.Recommendation: The tool should always be suppliedwith power via a residual current device (RCD) with arated current of 30 mA or less.Hand/arm vibrationsThe vibration emission level given in this informationsheet has been measured in accordance with a standard-ised test given in EN 60745 and may be used to compareone tool with another. It may be used for a preliminaryassessment of exposure. The declared vibration emission level represents themain applications of the tool. However, if the tool is usedfor different applications, with different accessories orpoorly maintained, the vibration emission may differ. This may significantly increase the exposure level overthe total working period. An estimation of the level of exposure to vibrationshould also take into account the times when the tool isswitched off or when it is running but not actually doingthe job. This may significantly reduce the exposure levelover the total working period.Identify additional safety measures to protect the opera-tor from the effects of vibration such as: maintain the tooland the accessories, keep the hands warm, organisationof work patterns.Operating Instructions.Guide the power tool toward the work piece onlywhen switched on.While cutting, hold the power tool as upright as possibleto the work-piece surface (BLS 1.6 E and BLS 2.5 E).Guide the power tool uniformly and with light feed in thecutting direction. Excessive feed reduces the tool life ofthe application tools.Do not cut steel sheets where welded. Do not cut lay-ered sheets exceeding the max. work-piece thickness. To increase the tool life of the blades, it is recommendedto apply a lubricating agent alongside the intended cuttingline:– For cuts in steel sheet: Cutting paste or cutting oil.– For cuts in aluminium: Petroleum.Do not switch the power tool off until after havingremoved it from the cutting path. The symptom for worn blades is a clearly increased feedforce at lower working progress.BSS: For inside cuts, a pilot hole is required; see “Techni-cal Data”.BSS 1.6 CE: For cut-outs, pull the power tool from thechip while the motor is running. Cut long chips off.BSS 1.6 E, BSS 1.6 CE: Blades and cutting bars cannot bereground.BSS 2.0 E: Blades and cutting bars can be reground.BSS 2.0 E: For stationary operation, clamp the power toolin a vice using aluminium or plastic protection jaws.Tighten the vice adequately so that the application tool isclamped firmly yet not damaged.BLS 1.6 CE, BLS 2.5 E, BLS 3.5: The blades cannot bereground and must always be replaced in pairs.BLS 4.2: The table blade can be reground; check the cut-ting angle with the grinding gauge provided.Check the cutting slit; excessive feed leads to an overlynarrow slit; heavy burrs will result from a too wide slit.BLS 3.5, BLS 4.2: The self-start prevention lock preventsthe power tool from automatically restarting again, evenafter a brief interruption of the power supply, e. g., froma pulled mains plug. Switch the power tool off and thenon again.Repair and customer service. When working metal under extreme operat-ing conditions, it is possible for conductivedust to settle in the interior of the power tool. The total insulation of the power tool can be impaired.Blow out the interior of the power tool via the ventila-tion slots frequently with dry and oil-free compressed air,and connect a residual current device (RCD) on the lineside. When the power tool’s power cord is damaged, it mustbe replaced by FEIN or by an authorized FEIN ServiceAgent, in order to avoid hazardous situations. The current spare parts list for this power tool can befound in the Internet at www.fein.com.If required, you can change the following parts yourself:Application tools, cutting bars (BSS)Warranty and liability. The warranty for the product is valid in accordance withthe legal regulations in the country where it is marketed. In addition, FEIN also provides a guarantee in accordancewith the FEIN manufacturer’s warranty declaration. The delivery scope of your power tool may include onlya part of the accessories described or shown in thisInstruction Manual.Declaration of conformity.FEIN declares itself solely responsible for this productconforming with the relevant provisions given on the lastpage of this Instruction Manual.Technical documents at: C. & E.
